#2havardDec 06, 2007 2:52:49 | Alphaks is the main Volcano dude, but I think it might be hard to convince him to fend off anything destructive. How about Cretia? Havard |

He's not specifically volcanic, but he's one of the few smith-gods in Mystara, so he may take the place of Hephaestos/Vulcanus. GP |

They'd certainly have the chance to have such an event in their history, and the notion that such appeasement is necessary probably helps to make their history a touch darker and more interesting. |
#5maddogDec 06, 2007 9:27:37 | How about Cretia? Isn't Cretia the "survival of the fitest" immortal of the Ethengari? He'd probably let the volcano/hurricane blow just to see who survives. --Ray. |

Definitely. I also remember from Ierendi GAZ a mention of a Queen of Fire (or something like that) as the opponent of the Old Man of the Sea, and their fights as the cause of earthquakes/volcanic activity. |

As I recall, Cretia is associated with the wind (at least the chaotic tempest type). One of his granted spells is Wind Blast or something like that. I could see people appealing to him for assistance against hurricanes (though, like you point out, his capricious nature might make him not help- it depends on which way the wind is blowing. Meh heh heh! ) Otherwise, I'm not sure. Probably some Immortal of Thought. Odin is the only one that comes to mind offhand. How about that Zephyr chap who is mentioned as a tossaway in Gaz2? (DM has them as one and the same in his Immortal stuff, but that needn't necessarily be the case). There was an Oloron, Lord of the Skies (or somesuch) in X1: Isle of Dread that was a god among the Thanegioth people. There was also the King of the Winds, Leosus, in module M1: Into the Maelstrom, who was either a native Alphatian Immortal or an Immortal Servitor (like a Titan). He seems to be more of the latter, and if so, then he must serve someone (IIRC, they mention him as one of Koryis' servants). Actually, Koryis might not be a bad idea. His wind/air associations outside of his Thought status haven't really been played up, but given the Ochaleans' Chinese parallels and their Alphatian connection, I could see substituting the water associations often seen in Taoism with air- which is similar in principle- and having Koryis and his philosophy represent similar concepts. |

Found him. He'd let it blow because it would be a great challenge to the people. http://www.pandius.com/cretia.html I'm at work right now so I can't check but wasn't there a bat god in a volcano in STAP? He's one of the Aztec gods but I can't think of the name. Perhaps he'd be a good choice. --Ray. EDIT: Found him. It's Xiuhtecuhtli. http://paizo.com/dragon/messageboards/generalDiscussion/aztecMythosRedux&page=1#312381&source=search Xiuhtecuhtli Intermediate God (Neutral) Xiuhtecuhtli (Lord of Fire, Lord of the Year, Huehueteotl – the Ancient God) is regarded as the oldest deity in the Central American mythos. As god of fire he is the lightning bolt and the volcano, but he is also the hearth fire that warms the home and cooks the food. As god of time he is the patron of the sacred rituals that keep the world running smoothly, but he is also the patron of the everyday rituals that make a household run smoothly. Xiuhtecuhtli is sometimes depicted as a man with red skin and a black face bearing a yellow serpent on his back. Other times he is depicted as a pillar of flame that runs from the depths of the earth, through every hearth, up to the sun. Xiuhtecuhtli asks only that people perform the necessary rites to keep the world running smoothly. Most of his clerics worship Xiuhtecuhtli in his guise as god of the hearth, using the power given them to aid the community. However, a few worship the fire god seeking to harness the power of lightning and volcanoes. Portfolio: Fire, hearth, time Domains: Fire, Knowledge, Protection Favored Weapon: Battleaxe Cleric Training: Clerics of Xiuhtecuhtli are students of history, but they also must be well versed in many domestic skills. Clerics of the fire god often serve as teachers. Quests: Typical quests include clearing a house of mischievous fey, lighting a sacred fire with flame from a distant volcano, and preventing evil aberrations from hastening the time of monsters. Prayers: An offering of food and drink is traditionally made first thing in the morning to Xiuhtecuhtli seeking his protection over hearth and home. Temples: Most homes have a shrine to Xiuhtecuhtli. Larger temples are often built on volcanic mountains – between the fires of the earth and the fires of the sky. Rites: The last day of each year is important to Xiuhtecuhtli. Each household extinguishes their hearth fire, cleans the hearth, and lights a new fire. This is a time to clean house and settle accounts, in preparation for a new year. Every 52 years a more elaborate ritual celebrates the new age (see above). Herald and Allies: Xiuhtecuhtli’s herald is a fire monolith (from Complete Arcane). Allies are Medium, Large, and Huge fire elementals. |
