#1ishan_whDec 26, 2007 16:15:03 | Hello everybody... I have been pondering on some image, you people remember the game TORMENT from BlackIsle studios, its the best PC game from DnD 2nd I have ever played, located in Planescape I couldnt help an wonder Does the main character Nameless One is from Dark Sun or what, I mean look at his gear, loin cloth, lots of bone "armor" and when you equip him his axe seems to be from stone/obsidian, dunno but I bet my money that he is from Athas, weird thing is that alledgely no one can enter or leave Athas except the Ravenloft mists... Think about it |
#2hans_kelsenDec 26, 2007 17:16:01 | On the book Defilers and Preservers - The Wizard of Athas, on page 12, it is stated that when you try to travel to or from Athas in a planar fashin, there is a CHANCE you´ll get lost in the Gray. The test is scoring your Intelligence or less on a d100 dice, which is really hard... |
#3jaidDec 26, 2007 21:45:14 | it isn't completely impossible, it's just really, really difficult. for example, i hear there's some athasian halflings in sigil, and there's definitely some athasian halflings in the baldur's gate series (i think if you do the planar sphere quest?) also, iirc WotC has definitely tapped into the rich athasian wildlife to swipe monsters for other settings, or at least the monster manuals (i remember seeing the rampager a while back i think?) so yeah, one way or another, athasian stuff creeps in to the rest of the settings (even if they don't admit it) |
#4jon_oracle_of_athasDec 27, 2007 18:41:32 | To add to the support of interplanar travel being possible: a) Planescape Boxed Set mentions portals to Athas which have been forgotten. b) Black Spine revolves around such a portal - a githyanki invasion on Athas. c) The Planar Gate is an artifact which allows planar travel without the risk of getting lost in the Grey. d) Athas is in a sealed crystal sphere, preventing Spelljammer vessels from reaching it. e) In Dragon´s Crown there is an outsider stalking the streets of Urik. f) A Planescape source mentions a tribe of Athasian elves (could be the Star Racers). As for the Nameless One, who knows where he hails from... |
#5hans_kelsenDec 28, 2007 7:28:36 | Is there any way a Spelljammer vessel can go through the sealed crystal sphere and reach Athas? |
#6ishan_whDec 28, 2007 7:31:39 | Nice support theories, I did knew that Athas was blocked from planar travel, I just wanted to make a point that Nameless One does look like a Athasian Native, see his axe when he picks it up, is it not the double blades black and glassy like obsidian lol, or look at his "clothing" if he werent all scarred and grey.... lol who knows really but its a kool looking character |
#7huntmasteravatarDec 28, 2007 7:43:35 | i always figured that Nameless was a dead god or demi god. or maybe the son of the lady of pain. i forget what the trancendant one says.. |
#8jaidDec 28, 2007 17:26:34 | Is there any way a Spelljammer vessel can go through the sealed crystal sphere and reach Athas? if your DM wants it to, yes. otherwise, no. |
#9Silverblade_The_EnchanterJan 01, 2008 12:31:54 | Actually, isn't the Nameless One one of the archmages of D&D's iconography? Damn, years since I played the computer game, but there's clues that sugegst he's someone LIKE Tenser, Mordenkainen etc, iirc? |
#10jon_oracle_of_athasJan 04, 2008 17:34:51 | The game hints at several possible identities. Wasn´t there also a comic book included with the game, or am I confusing it with a different title? |

Wasn´t there also a comic book included with the game, or am I confusing it with a different title? i got the game when it was in a double pack with fallout 1. so i never got the original box. if there was a comic i will have to find it someday. its neat to think that the nameless one could be a fallen SK or maybe even a hero who traveled to the past. |
#12kilamarFeb 16, 2008 8:51:52 | I do not know were I read it, but it is written in one of the books that the Nameless one is one of the Pyreen. Furthermore the one from Dark Sun and the one of the PS Game look totally different. The Nameless One still wanders the wastes of Athas and is blessed with good memory and does not suffer the psychological disorder of the PS Version. They are completely different characters. I thought so, but I was leaning more towards the appeareance of the character, you know the bone that serves him as a belt, any axe he picks is rustic and stony, the appeareance except for the grey skin lol |
#14the_ubbergeekFeb 19, 2008 18:35:52 | The game *spoiler perhaps* seems to perhaps lean more that he was one of the ancient Gith figure... Zerthimon, maybe? |
#15MulhullFeb 23, 2008 18:22:34 | To add to the support of interplanar travel being possible: Also, the 2E complete elves handbook says the elves on Athas came from another world, not that they came from the rebirth. I think it's just an error though. |
