Hi!

First of all i wish a happy new year to all fellow Mystarians!

Then my doubt; is the Church of Thyatis an official (OD&D) institution? If so where is it described or refered?

Thanks

It is mentioned briefly in a Dragon magazine VotPa Letter column where Bruce Heard is talking about the Church of Karameikos. He describes the Church of Thyatis as a now defunct instituition. Dawn of the Emperors provides a list of Immortals worshipped in Thyatis.

IMC, not all the Immortals from the DotE list are actually part of the Church of Thyatis, and some others (Particularly Ixion) play central roles in the Empire. The ones I have removed are the ones who can be tied to other well known pantheons like the Norse pantheon and the Traladaran one.

It is also mentioned in GAZ1 and GAZ5, IIRC.
However, it was never specified to what extent the Church of Thyatis was similar to the Church of Karameikos (if at all), and whether it included all or some of the Immortals currently worshipped in Thyatis.

Thyatis itself has a fairly small core of "native" Immortals (Protius, Vanya, Valerias and Tarastia are the ones that clearly were not adopted from other nations), while most others were taken from the pantheons of ethnic groups that were incorporated in or had contact with the Empire (Diulanna from the Hinterlands, Korotiku from the Pearl Islands, Koryis from Ochalea, Halav from Traladara, Odin and Thor from the Northern Reaches/Westrourke/Norwold, Ilsundal and Kagyar from the demihumans, Alphaks from Alphatia).

A more developed variant of the Thyatian religion can be found here: http://www.pandius.com/thy_rel.html

Yes, this last part only comes from VotPA and even that one is fairly vague.

Yep. I focus on the "native" Immortals IMC since I want to make it easier to distinguish between the different churches. In addition to Ixion, the Twelve Watchers and Tyche are a couple of the additional Immortals I am considering to be "native" Thyatian Immortals. IMC Minroth is also considered part of the Thyatian pantheon, and Minrothaddar beliefs are aso based on the philosophies of the Church of Thyatis. Most of the Darokinian temples have a similar situation.

So the teachings of the Church of Thyatis are present in the following countries:
* Thyatis (ofcourse)
* Karameikos (as the Church of Karameikos)
* Minrothad
* Ierendi
* Darokin
* The Isle of Dawn
* Norwold
* The Savage Coast

This makes the Thyatian religious teachings one of the most popular "faiths" in the Known World. The Northman Pantheon, the Eternal Truth (Al-Kalim) and the Church of Traladara (Found in Karameikos, Thyatis and Darokin) are rivalling faiths along with various other human and demi-human faiths.

Hi!

I was asking the question because i'm running, 8 years after, the WotI campaign once again with a group of players who are unfamiliar with Mystara and this time with 3.5 rules.

So one of them came with this Church of Thyatis issue he saw on Pandius and as i didnĀ“t recall any organization described in any official material with that name (not even mentioned in DotE) i was wondering if i was doing something wrong all these years...

Thanks guys
