The Sodkillers inherited the worst of that, and are still operating out of Acheron. Like the baatezu, they believe in weeding out those that fall outside the accepted limits of acceptability and putting them down. It just takes a little corruption to turn that from "putting down criminals" to "putting down anyone whom I deem offensive." The Sodkillers even have at least one osyluth as a high-ranking member. Also, some rumor that the Sign of One has some pull with Bel, Lord of Avernus. While the Signer philosophy is probably too self-focused to appeal to the hierarchical devils very much, this debt might easily place devilish troops at the service of the Signers and the ties between the two might place baatezu in unexpected positions in the faction. Those things being said, it's also important to note that, in Planescape, sometimes wacky things happen, and it's part of the setting. It's cool to have a baatezu Anarchist who believes that all mortal organizations are unworthy and manipulates cells of agents, disguised, in order to bring all life under baatezu command. |

The PCs also need and desire this item and want to keep it out of Demonic hands. A faction, sympathetic to Devils intercepts the thief and the fun begins! |
