Hi guys,

Concerning Asticlian Gambit (either 2nd ed or 3.5);

How did the Red Moon Hunt go?

Random path generator
Personnaly, I think the random path generator is kind of ridiculous and I believe I won't use it letting the players find their own way with the Survival and Knowledge (geography) skill.

The Hunters
Is it just me or are the hunters a little too strong for the PCs. I was thinking of lowering the ECLs to 9-11 since my players have a 7th level average.
Being the Gulg expert :P , I don't believe noble wannabes should be higher than 8th or 9th level (at which point they enter the Noble Hunter prestige class). On average, they would probably be at higher levels than nobles of other city-states since they are more active for the city's survival and hunt constantly in the forest but I should believe an average of 10th level would be enough.

What do you think?

I ran the adventure a while back. And yes, I would throw out the path generator chart for the Red Moon Hunt and the second one later on. I used them when I ran the adventure and it was a bad mistake, that made the players and me frustrated and bored. I am not sure of the best fix for it, but anything should be better than using the chart.

As for the hunters' levels, adjust them to suit your party. But if I recall correctly not all of the hunters are wannabe nobles, so already are. Does not the hunt mistress participate in the hunt in the adventure?

I made a map of the section the PCs are going to be in for the hunt. I made it a bit like a dungeon, forest trails being a bit like corridors and clearings like rooms (catch my drift). Of course, they arent' limited to the trails but it gives me an easy way to know about where they are in the forest. It'll be the same for the dungeons as they won't be random rooms. I'll give news on how that went.

My PCs will meet nobles and yeah the Hunt mistress takes part of the hunt but as I don't necessarily want to kill my players by putting a CR 18 NPC into play, I'll drop her (she's probably off somewhere else killing other slaves).

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, the path generator didn't work for me either. I stopped using it after about 3 times and just make it all up with narrative combined with strong description.

Funny thing, my players destroyed the hunter nobles. Only a couple survived more than 4 rounds (The halfling hinters iirc). The other were too noisy and my players are good tacticians. The forest turned out to be more of a challenge.

After they were captured by Nibenay, he sent them back to steal something from the Oba's vault and they had to confront the hunt mistress. After she lost 100 hps, she fled but not b/c she had to. She was nasty and the players were very afraid. She let them know, she didn't consider killing them in the city to be proper "sport" and she let them go. She didn't care about the vault.

I got this thread Various NPC`s from 2nd edition Sourcebooks Converted there I have finished all the major npc from the Asticlian Gambit Adventure if you need em.

The HP might seem high cause of a formula I use, the formula is explained in the same thread.

Let me know

Have a good adventure hehehe

Well the Red Moon Hunt went smoothly with my map of the Forest. The characters made choices of going up or down hills, contoured bog areas, went near satellite villages and used the sound of drums to navigate (as in:"Let's get as far away from the drums as possible!").

As for the hunters being too powerful, it's hard to say since I had a really unlucky night rolling dice.
