#1havardApr 03, 2008 8:51:50 | I've mentioned this before, but... Why was the female from the cover of Gaz1 (which I believe is Aleena) replaced by Joshuan as our icon on the Other Roleplaying Worlds icon? Who would our comminty prefer to have as our icon? Is there any way we can get it changed back should we want to? Havard |
#2HuginApr 03, 2008 11:22:13 | Aleena!!! |
#3kengarApr 03, 2008 14:30:26 | Is this a trick question?! Aleena, of course! |
#4wilhelm_Apr 03, 2008 15:13:26 | I'm sorry Joshuan, you're very nice, but of course Aleena from the cover of GAZ 1 :D |
#5CthulhudrewApr 03, 2008 16:11:42 | I think it should be Bargle. |
#6sbwilsonApr 03, 2008 16:58:40 | Aleena without a doubt. However, while it is a good picture, I've never equated the picture on Gaz1 with Aleena. |
#7havardApr 03, 2008 17:10:02 | I think it should be Bargle. Well, not a bad suggestion. I guess the color images of him in last year's (Paizo) Dungeon could work Havard |
#8havardApr 03, 2008 17:11:53 | Aleena without a doubt. However, while it is a good picture, I've never equated the picture on Gaz1 with Aleena. Yeah, that is my interpretation I guess. But hopefully everyone knows which image I am referring to. In any case I think we'd benefit more from any gazeteer image over any of the AD&D Mystara image (though the Gaz1 cover was reused in the K:KoA box adventure booklet. Havard |
#9gawain_viiiApr 03, 2008 18:07:30 | Between the two options, I would choose Aleena. If it were an open contest, I would nominate the Shadow Lord (from Saga of the Shadow Lord), Stefan Karameikos (from iside the K:KoA booklet, with Stefan sitting on his horse), or one of the Elmore Dragons--although the small size of the thumbnail might prohibit any of those. I never did get the final issue of Dungeon, so I don't know what Bargle looked like. I wasn't impressed with the K:KoA "portrait". However, if the picture from Dungeon was suitable, Bargle would be a viable vote for me. Roger As an afterthought, one of the Immortals would be great too. Ka, Rad, or Ixion would probably be the best. |
#10RobJNApr 03, 2008 20:00:35 | The black-and-white of Aleena sitting cross-legged from the '83 Basic set. Definitely. |
#11patrick_sullivanApr 04, 2008 12:59:32 | I hate to say it, but I love having Joshuan as our spokesmodel! I'm much less fond, however, of Brannart and the vampire up in the banner once we're on the site. Those images seem too wannabe-Ravenloft for my tastes... a nice Gazetteer collage or the lineup from the Monstrous Compendium seems more appropriate. |
#12eldersphinxApr 05, 2008 21:52:56 | Y'know, I think I've also mentioned this before, but there ain't no chance of replacing Joshuan as the forum mascot while his portrait remains the only 24x24 pixel GIF sitting in WotC's image archives. Step One of absolutely any "we should change our mascot" thread should be Photoshopping a replacement. Sticking the product up on image hosting and posting the result in-thread wouldn't be a bad second step, at that. :P Once there's a credible replacement, it's worth actually asking whether a change should be made. Asking WotC forum managers to swap image files is one thing; asking them to go out and create a new image file from an unspecified source is something else. |
#13traversetravisApr 07, 2008 18:03:52 | So is anyone willing to post right-sized Aleena (and Bargle!) pics for us to choose from? |
#14traversetravisApr 07, 2008 18:20:46 | I decided to look through WotC's avatars to see which ones are from OD&D/Mystara: Chlormordia Curcio Dagaronzie BaronRykoffe Talamar Pyrosernia Varalla Lakkonon Orsos Panndallor Norsinnow Travis P.S. The file names for these images are interesting. I wonder how WotC came up with them? Perhaps these names could be used as the official Mystaran names for any previously-unnamed characters depicted in those scenes. (Though some may've also been given names in the 2e trading card sets.) Finally I'd have a name for that Red Dragon that invited me into Mystara...Pyrosernia. |
#15CthulhudrewApr 07, 2008 20:08:55 | Here's a quick colorized Aleena I did last night: |
#16culture20Apr 07, 2008 22:02:01 | Here's a quick colorized Aleena I did last night I was about to say that a black & white Aleena would be perfect until I saw your colorization. Spot On! Aleena makes more sense than any other Mystara character; most recognizable face, and most emotionally charged history, all in one package!:D Edit: Although, the "other worlds" image is 40x40, so maybe crop the image to 65x65 (just below her chin and above her helm), then scale to 40x40? If I scale the 80x80 image down, it's not obvious who she is. |
#17havardApr 08, 2008 15:48:20 | Here's a quick colorized Aleena I did last night: That one looks sweet Drew! You realize you now have to do colored full size versions of all the Aleena/Bargle images from the Basic set? :D Havard |
#18RobJNApr 08, 2008 19:25:24 | Wow! Nicely done. I'd thought after I posted "I wonder if anybody's ever colored those... Sure would be nice if somebody did." Bravo. |
#19maddogApr 09, 2008 7:53:43 | Looks great! May we see the full-sized image? It appears that the thumbnail links to an "imageshack" upload page of some sort. --Ray. |
#20wilhelm_Apr 09, 2008 20:23:14 | I decided to look through WotC's avatars to see which ones are from OD&D/Mystara I'm curious, this one I'm using isnt from Mystara? It's X9 cover, isn't it? Was this picture used at other produtcs unrelated to Mystara? Here's a quick colorized Aleena I did last night Nice pic, Drew! :D |
#21traversetravisApr 09, 2008 22:02:01 | I'm curious, this one I'm using isnt from Mystara? It's X9 cover, isn't it? Was this picture used at other produtcs unrelated to Mystara? Right you are! Any others I missed? Travis |
#22wilhelm_Apr 10, 2008 0:30:44 | Any others I missed? From that cover, these guys here: And I also found these: IM1 The Immortal Storm (same of "Lakkonon" you posted) GAZ1 The Grand Duchy of Karameikos HWA3 Nightstorm B11 King's Festival CM5 Mystery of the Snow Pearls CM9 Legacy of Blood And this last one, that's not cover of any mystaran book I know, but is identical to the rogue character of Shadows over Mystara. |
#23traversetravisApr 10, 2008 10:40:58 | Sheesh...I missed a lot! Good eye! |
#24CthulhudrewApr 11, 2008 5:43:11 | Wow. Never seen this one before, but it's just begging to be the cover to a Mystara Gazetteer. Which nation, or group of nations, though? It seems vaguely desert/arabian/african/indian themed, possibly Sind? Or something else? Maybe a combo Pearl Islands/Ochalea gaz? In any event, sorry I haven't responded to questions about Aleena yet. Injured my shoulder on Monday night, and am only just now getting enough utility in my right arm that I can type again, albeit with much discomfort. I'll hopefully be able to post more in the next couple of days. |

#27wilhelm_Apr 12, 2008 1:05:17 | Wow. Never seen this one before, but it's just begging to be the cover to a Mystara Gazetteer. Lol! Indeed it is! BTW, I can't find anything about the book that received this cover (Red Sands), like if the main character is indeed Moriah or just a clone ;) Which nation, or group of nations, though? It seems vaguely desert/arabian/african/indian themed, possibly Sind? Or something else? Maybe a combo Pearl Islands/Ochalea gaz? Red Sands: An Arabian Adventure... yes, Sind, or pehaps Ylaruam. Or Hule too. Injured my shoulder on Monday night, and am only just now getting enough utility in my right arm that I can type again, albeit with much discomfort. I'll hopefully be able to post more in the next couple of days. Hope you get better soon ;) Considering the wide variety of (apparent) cultures depicted, I might suggest the cover for an Isle of Dawn (and neighboring islands) Gazetteer. Another good possibility ;) |
