How will 4.0 races fit into Dragonlance?

Halflings = Kender I can understand.
Dragonborn = descendants of Draconians of Teyr I can understand too.
Eladrin = Silvanesti
Elf = Qualinesti

But what would Tieflings be, Kagonesti elves?

I don't see it happening.

Tieflings are tieflings. Check Price of Courage for their prior appearance in DL.

Halflings would need minimal modification to account for fearlessness, taunt, etc.

The rest is spot on.

I would assume that much like Half Orcs in 3.5 most people just would not have Tieflings in their DL games. So many great races in DL already there is little need for new ones. Can't wait to see what they do with 4e Minotaurs as a player race, heck even Half Ogres might get a good set up this time around.

Easy, they don't. I have no idea how the tiefling is suppose to work in any campagin setting with a really solid history or its races short of rewriting things.

Throw out the 4e core explanation.

I introduced tieflings into Price of Courage as creations/servants/children of Chaos, and that's pretty much the direction I would take them. Distant cousins to daemon warriors and daemonlords.

I like how in 3ed teflings could look more or less "evil" so maybe they have been there the whole time, or once inhabited some far off region and now have returned, or my favorite, they where just created, group's of humans making pacts with evil gods, not knowing the disfigurement that will consume there body's and soles.

Just like they did in 3.0. There are no orcs in DL, so how do you have a half-orc? Definately see a alternate dragonborn being the dragonkin(?) they are prime for coming back and being a core race. Odd I wonder if their ascendance in DL might have promoted them being a core race in regular D&D.

Anyway, there will be a core setting with new versions of the races, Eladrin will probably not be in DL, as they aren't, but all our great races will be. That's what a core race is.

I am thinking of running a DL game right off the bat and making Eladrin just Silvanesi, and regular elves Qualinesti. No mountain dwarves just yet, just hill dwarves (mountain guys shut themselves up again I would wager). And go from there.

Thanks for the help. I made this thread because I'm planning on running a 4.0 campaign on Krynn...probably 30 - 60 years after the War of Souls. The PC's will be the primary group during an outbreak of war between Minotaur occupied Silvanesti, Qualinesti Goblinoids, and Neraka against the rest of the continent.

I'm just not sure how I'm going to fit in Tieflings if any of the PC's ask to be one.

I personally won't include them in any 4E DL I run. I think taking the PHB races, and the MM monsters, should give an idea of how to make Silvanesti, Qualinest, Kagonest, the dwarves, the gnomes, the kender. Heck, kender should be easy, they now have marking abilities, I believe that is what taunt is anyway.
