#1slipwingApr 14, 2008 6:54:23 | Hello, I am new to this list although I have been playing in Mystara for 20 years now. I currently have a project that I am currently working that I would like some opinions on. I am a long time fan of the Gith and they are pretty easy to include in any Mystara campaign simply because they are native to the Astral Plane. However, I wish to write them into the history of my Mystara campaign by making the Gith the descendants of an Alphatian colony that was lost and abandoned during a war with the Illithid, long before the Great War. Any opinions or suggestions on this? |

I currently have a project that I am currently working that I would like some opinions on. Perhaps these Alphatians were part of the Flaem exodus which is said to have undergone many hardships on the planes before some of them arrived in Glantri? If you wanted a more Mystaran twist on the Githyanki, they could have become slaves of Brain Collectors rather than Illithids. I guess what you have to ask yourself is, what sort of attitude do these Githyanki have towards Mystara, the Alphatians and the Flaems? Do they have any interest in any of these elements at all or do they prefer remaining on the Astral? Havard |
#3slipwingApr 15, 2008 6:45:13 | Thank you for the reply, Havard. Although I am just as big of a fan of Illithid as I am of the Gith, I do like the idea of using brain collectors. My original plan was to not only write in a history between the Alphatians and Gith, but also a history between the Alphatians and the Illithid, ie the war where the colony was lost. What is the Gith's attitude toward the Alphatians? They harbor the same hatred of the Alphatians as they do towards the Illithid (or Brain Collectors), simply for abandoning them. Still looking for more ideas. |

In this version of things, the githyanki fled a calamity within the Nightmare Dimension ages ago, arriving in the only place where they could find refuge - the Astral Plane. In order to insure their survival, they took the only action open to them, and changed their bodies away from Nightmare physiology into ugly, humanlike, but able to survive on the Astral and outer planes. They hate what they look like, they hate where they're forced to live, but they can't go home again... |

While the Alphatian connection would be easy to accomodate, the idea of "isolation leads to abandonment leads to animosity leads to hatred" has been used multiple times already: the Shadowelves, the Sylvan lands, the Traldar, NACE, Flaems & Alphatians, all of the Laterre groups, etc, etc. Just an opinion, Roger |
#6havardApr 17, 2008 7:13:00 | I also like Eldersphinx' idea! You could have both Brain Collectors and Mind Flayers as natives of the Nightmare Dimension and have them both be enemies of the Diaboli. The Gith would be surviving Diaboli from a massive BC/MF attack on a colony, now forced to live in refuge on the Astral for centuries adapting to those hostile conditions and changing them forever. #8slipwingMay 15, 2008 6:39:32 | I have been giving thought to the Gith being descended from Diaboli and given the physical characteristics of the Diaboli, doesn't it seem too long of a stretch for the Diaboli to go from hoofed feet to clawed humanoid feet, in addition to loosing their tails and horns, growing a fifth finger, and going from purple skin to yellow, even after taking into account mutations from living in the Astral Plane? |

Maybe they weren't exactly diaboli to begin with, but some similar race from the Dimension of Nightmares? Just tossing out ideas, really. Havard |
