Paizo are working on their own RPG system named Pathfider.

http://paizo.com/store/downloads/pathfinderRPG/v5748btpy8253

I really like it and its basically D&D 3.5 which powers up most classes while making a reasonable attempt to fix broken stuff like Polymorph. Some of us aren't looking at updating to 4.0 or may not able to run our favouite settings under 4.0 rules or have to wait until all the classes are done. I'm thinking of doing a Pathfinder RPG Darksun classes and races but I'm not sure if its worth doing if no one else is runing these rules.

Thoughts?

People I have talked to like the rules, and for those who wish to carry on with 3.5e based campaigns, Pathfinder is a good choice. At some point I want to run a Planescape campaign with it.

If I don't convert to 4th, that's what I'll use.

You can count on me Zardnaar.

For the Pathfinder Psion, I took the Psychic class first published in the "Psychic's Handbook" (Steve Kenson) and later in the "Advanced Player's Handbook" (Skip Willians).

I also revised some concepts from the Psychic Handbook to make it "pathfinder":

• In the "Psychic Handbook" each psionic power correspond to a single skill (e.g. one skill for "mental contact", another skill for "suggestion", etc.), what leaves the psion with very limited choices of powers (since you get maximum skill points equal to 8 + Int mod/level).

To fix that, I have divided all power between the 5 psionic disciplines.

Each psionic discipline represents a diferent psionic skill in wich the psionic can invest his skill points in: Psychometabolism(Con), Psychoportation(Int), Clairsentience (Wis), Psychokinesis(Int), Tepepaphy(Wis).

At first level only a single psionic discipline is considered a class skill for the psionic, being all the others cross-class skills for him. As the psion advances in levels the other skill disciplines become class skill for him (the 2nd skill discipline at 5th level, the 3rd skill discipline at 9th level, the 4th skill discipline at 13th level, and the 5th and last skill discipline at 17th level).

For the power the psionic must spend FEATs to acquire each different psionic power. Also the psion class gives him 1 Bonus Psionic Power Feat each level. These power can be selected from the power list bellow (note that many of these powers are from the Psychic handbook, while others have been converted by me from 2e):

Psychometabolism(Con)
Adaptation
Body Control
Drain Ability
Ennhance Ability
Enhance Senses
Life Drain
Psychic Healing
Psychic Weapon
Chamaleon Power
Flesh Armor
Accelarate
Alter Features

Psychoportation(Int)
Apport
Blink Teleport
Dimensional Phase
Teleport
Divert Teleport
Teleport Anchor
Teleport Lock
Teleport Trigger
Dimensional Door
DimensionalPocket
Phase Object
Worm Hole

Clairsentience(Wis)
Combat Sense
Precognition
Psychic Sense
Psychometry
Remote Viewing
Sense Minds
Aura Sight
PsychicSignature
Erase Signature
Truth Reading
All-round vision
Subconscious-memory

Psychokinesis(Int)
Cryokinesis
Electrokinesis
Photokinesis
Pyrokinesis
Telekinesis
Telekinetic Grip
Telekinetic Blast
TelekineticShield
(Telekinetic)Flight
Disintegrate
Energy Absorption
Kinetic Control

Tepepaphy(Wis)
Domination
Empaphy
EmpathicProjection
(Psychic) Illusion
Mental Contact
Mind Reading
Psychic Blast
Psychic Shield
Psychic Static
Psychic Surgery
Suggestion
Psychic Invisibility

• To manifest a psionic power, the psion must make a skill check, using the skill discipline related to the power he wants to manifest. The effects of the power vary according to the skill check result:

E.g.: Psionic Power "Enhance Senses" (Psychometabolic):
Check: This power provides a psionic bonus to your Perception (listen, spot and search) checks. The skill checks indicates the ammount of the bonus:

Check
DC Bonus
10 = +2
15 = +4
20 = +6
25 = +8
30 = +10

Our gaming group plays multiple RPG's, so I expect we'll be using both Pathfinder & D&D 4E.

Wisdom for telepathy?

Wisdom for telepathy?

Thanks for asking Bruno.

Well the reason I choose Wisdom for telepathy is balance.

It wouldn´t be reasonable to make the 5 psionic disciplines keyed to more than 3 ability scores. So we have:

Constitution for Psychometabolic skill;

Intelligence for Psychokinesis skill and Psychoportive skill;

and Wisdom for Telepathy skill and Clairsentience skill.

I also consider reasonable to key Telepaphy to Wisdom since all Telepaphy Powers are resisted through Will Saves (Wisdom).

But I would like to hear your thougths Bruno.

I can't find my Complete Psionics Handbook right now, but I like the fact that no discipline was tied to a particular ability back in 2e. The ability was tied to what the power did. Like beast mastery was Wis, but domination was Int, and so forth.

2e mechanics were cool I agree. However, it was very complex too. DM´s had a hard time to make a NPC "psionicist".

The good of the rules I posted above is that each discipline is linked to a single ability, and psionic power are brought as feats, making it more simple for a DM to fast-build NPCs and players to use their psionic characters.

Being brutaky honest I liked second ed and loved Darksun but the rules were a nightmare and Darksun had plenty of stupid, unbalenced and downright contradictory rules' Cleric spheres seemed to change with every book released, Dragon Kings is a mess, Halflings could be preservers and then they couldn't, the races and classes were often otright broken etc. I won't even mention Psionics which was regarded aseither broken at worst or annoying at best. 3.5 is about the only edition of D&D that has made Psionics work although they gutted its flavour being in essence a magic varient.

Darksun had great flavour though, mechanically it was a mess.

Pathfinder looks good. I downloaded Alpha 3 and I like what I see. I'll be updating my 3.5 games with Pathfinder for sure.
