#1traversetravisJul 02, 2008 10:20:00 | Hi Mystara-folks, I've been reading CM6: Where Chaos Reigns, and I've been thinking about the Other Worlds, such as Aelos. Quote from p.2 of the module: "Other Worlds The prime plane on which the adventurers live is but one of the teeming planes scattered throughout the multiverse. Yet, within itself, the prime plane ecompasses another whole universe; a universe in which many different, parallel worlds follow their own courses -- sometimes moving in step with one another and at other times diverging. [...] Aelos [...] is such a parallel world" This brought up some ideas: 1) If I understand that wording, there is a single universe containing many parallel worlds, with that single universe being located within the prime plane, and the prime plane being within the multiverse (the Multiverse Dimension?). How does that fit with Mystara's cosmology? 2) I've been trying to imagine what a map of the World of Aelos would look like. Besides the module's few disconnected maps from different ages of Aelos, there are a few hints in the module about Aelos' geography beyond the edge of those maps. I've been imagining how to tie all those maps and hints into a single world map (or better yet, a world map for each of the ages represented in the module). The idea I have is to use one of Earth's paleogeographic maps for the outlines of the continent(s): http://www.scotese.com/earth.htm . This would be similar to how TSR based Mystara's geography on the Late Jurassic map. Since Mystara is much smaller than Earth, Aelos could be smaller too. 3) These concepts could be applied to other "parallel worlds" of Mystara too. Other worlds could be based on other paleographic Earth maps, and these worlds could likewise be smaller or larger than Earth. What do you think? Travis |

One such parallell world is ofcourse LaTerre, which has a geography fairly close to RW Earth. LaTerre is sometimes described as a separate dimension though, whereas the quote you present indicates that Aelos is easier to reach than LaTerre. The fact that Aelos Immortals also have power on Mystara, being able to transport heroes from Mystara to Aelos suggests that the same Immortals are active on both worlds. This again supports the theory that Aelos is part of the same Dimension as Mystara, whereas LaTerre is not. You will probably get more response to these ideas if you post them over at the Piazza, since most of the Mystara community has moved there. Havard |
