#1zombiegleemaxJun 18, 2003 20:28:05 | I'll be playing my first Ravenloft game in about a week or so. So I figure I'd come here and ask for some advice in playing the game and run my character concept by you guys to see how viable it is in the game world. Also any advice on what I should do with it would be appericated. I'm thinking of playing the son of a noble. I want to go with a Musketeer kinda concept, think Dartanan from the Three Musketters, and I'm not sure what class would be best. I've narrowed it down to either Ranger or Rogue. I'm not to keen on the Ranger class right now. It doesn't exactly fit my ideal. However the Rogue doesn't have Rapier as one it's listed weapons and I don't want to spend the feat for it unless I have to. I'll probally talk to the DM and see if he'll let me swap out. I'm gonna play a human. I wanted to start out wielding a flint lock pistol so I'm gonna spend one feat on that. And I was thinking quick draw fit the bill as the other feat. Assuming I don't have to spend one to get the Rapier of course. From there I'm thinking dodge and moblity so he could be a quick and nimble fighter. I was pondering the duelist PrC but not sure if thats what I want in the end. Other than that I'm not sure. I'm not completly familar with the setting so any idea's on background and stuff so any help would be appericated. |

This is entirely up to you though. I do not know where you are starting out in RL, but for your character he may benefit from being from Dementlieu, Richemulot or Mordent as they seem to fit the bill more for the character you are wanting to play. Those areas are more of a rennaisance atmosphere and higher class. I hope that this at least helps a little. |

Evil acts in this campaign setting come at a price, usually in the form of power checks. There are also many other diffrent rules in this campaign setting to be be worried about, such as horror and maddness checks. Plus i forgot to mention that undead are even tougher in RL. All in all though the world is heaps of fun and a muskerteer character is a cool idea and should be fun to play poviding you'll be playing in the right domain. |

As was mentioned before... pay attention to the actions of your charcater... and watch that alignment! Bad things can happen to people who do bad things. Of course, this is Ravenloft... so bad things are bound to happen to you regardless of alignment... Dang! I miss playing RL!!! |
#7zombiegleemaxAug 02, 2003 14:48:58 | Hi, as i can remember rouges gain the ability to use an rapier. By the way the Prestige Class Duellist from Sword an Fist could be interesting for your charakter. |
#8zombiegleemaxAug 20, 2003 20:21:15 | What about the Aristocrat NPC class? IMO its viable at low levels. At higher levels the lack of benifits reduces its attractiveness. Go to either figher or rougue after a level or four and then a prestige class like the duelist. |
