The latest regional map has been posted. The map is of the lands surrounding The Rakers, including the Pale, Ratik and Bone March (plus others). Take a look at The Shadows of The Rakers. #2HalberkillJun 19, 2003 11:26:23 | Wow. That is very visually stunning. What are you using to get those effects? One critique though, THe mountains scale seems a bit off, if you look at other real world mountains in the same scale. Cheers, Halber |
#3eric_anondsonJun 19, 2003 20:12:54 | I assume you are referring to the "resolution" of topography? Absolutely true that it isn't as quite that exact as a real-world satelite photo would show. But it is as good as I can reasonably draw to give the effect of valleys and peaks. Other things, like the tree-line and the show-caps are other generalizations that are purely for "effect". If I drew the treeline where it would in fact be, nealy the entire mountain range would be hidden beneath forest, so drew it back down the slopes to reveal more of the mountain effect. I wanted it to "look real" to the observer, but not be so real that it revealed everything and took away all mystery. As far as what I'm using to draw the maps? In the comments of my Shield Lands/Bandit Kingdoms map article, I posted a sorta "How-To ". Rather than re-type it all, follow the link and check it out! Eric Anondson |

#5zombiegleemaxJul 10, 2003 22:41:25 | Eric, What projects do you have in the near future as far as maps? |
#6zombiegleemaxJul 11, 2003 1:32:21 | Originally posted by Halberkill They both seem to be working now. I think there may have been a problem in hosting them but whatever problem there may have been, it's fixed now |

#11imcleoJul 14, 2003 20:57:06 | Eric, I just wanted to say that your maps are great! I eagerly await their download each time I see one on Canonfire!. One of my players works at a printing place, and he printed out a couple copies of your "Shadows of the Rakers" maps on some obscenely good printer and laminated them, and they've become treasured parts of our campaign. Thank you, I'm Cleo! |
#12zombiegleemaxJul 14, 2003 23:19:38 | I just wanted to say, great work Eric. Your maps are very professional looking and nicely researched. Keep up the wonderful job. |
#13zombiegleemaxJul 15, 2003 4:08:08 | Originally posted by ImCleo Ooh! How much? That would freakin' rock! I have been meaning to go down to Kinkos and ask, but they charge $20 AUD JUST for accessing a ZIP disk so I dread to think what they charge for actually doing anything with the files on it... |
#14imcleoJul 21, 2003 23:16:08 | Delglath, Sorry for the belated response, but I really don't know how much they would cost (if one had to pay for them ;) ). He made two 8.5 X 11 inch ones, and one 11 X 14, laminated. Even being that small, the detail is extraordinary. He said that he couldn't "sneak" a poster-sized one, and that it would cost in the fifty dollar range. That's a bit much for a map, even one with Eric's workmanship. They're pretty awesome, though, and they perfectly fit in a Theocracy campaign. I'm Cleo! |
#15ArgonJul 22, 2003 19:34:05 | Thanks for the maps. I know it takes alot of effort and I wanted you to know that people such as my self appreciate it. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future. |
#16eric_anondsonSep 19, 2003 19:40:27 | Always good to toot one's own horn, so I just wanted to bring to everyone's attention a new map of mine to be posted at Canonfire! The Heart of the Flanaess Eric Anondson |
#17zombiegleemaxSep 19, 2003 20:20:05 | Can I have your babies? Ok, it might be a physical impossibility, but I'm willing to go through the operation... One thing... I think it's been mentioned before, but all the maps seem to be of different scales. I tried putting a few together, mainly because there were three maps which covered only a portion of the area I wanted to focus on, each, and I had to resize a lot and scrub out a few names in order to do so. It'd be way cool if all the maps were connectable... |
#18eric_anondsonSep 19, 2003 20:28:38 | Only the poster-sized maps should be connectible. The letter-sized were all scaled down to fit on a single sheet of normal printer paper. But the Poster sized maps as-is, from one map to the next, are meant to slightly overlap and fit together. You will still have issues with text being cut off even with the poster map because I readjust the text so that it isn't cutoff in each individual map. Eric Anondson |
#19zombiegleemaxSep 20, 2003 2:49:41 | Great idea. I would be eternally grateful to see one for around Irongate, Ahlissa, Onnwal and Sunndi. Nice to see people contributing to keep the setting alive. Thanks. |
