#3lissaJul 14, 2003 20:39:10 | Gamma World will never be the same and yet it will be the same. It promises to be as weird and wild as ever while giving GMs the tools to make a long running campaign if they want. I WANT!! :D |
#4zombiegleemaxJul 16, 2003 21:49:32 | Woohoo, Gamma World goodness. I finally got a spot on the boards and now I see that GW is finally getting the attention it so richly deserves. I want three of everything! BK |

#6zombiegleemaxAug 14, 2003 8:05:33 | Originally posted by Rawveggie Ummm, just to set the record straight, there are currently six books being planned for the GW line. If they all sell well, there may actually be more. Three should be released by the end of this year. The other three will be out some time next year. At the moment, the later ones are still in the very early stages of development. The GW PHB on the other hand is in production. I've seen the PDF proofs, and it looks fantastic. And from what I've seen of the text in Mutants and Machines, it could well be the best monster book I've ever seen, for any game. Some of the critters are just that good (I wish I'd written some of them). I think people should get a real kick out of the new GW. But then again, I'm biased cheers Geoff (one of the GW PHB authors) |
#7astinus_of_palanthasAug 15, 2003 21:05:18 | This can only be good news, as I only happened to know the Alternity edition of Gamma World, and I was looking for the 4th edition in rpgnow.com, althought it only has the 3rd ed. and 4th ed. suplements (which, by the way, is very odd!). Will the regional information only about the Pacific Coast of the the land once called U.S., or will it cover other portions of the globe, like Europe? Or, better so, will we see a suplement for geographic description, like a Gamma World Gazetteer. By the way what about a contest for such geographic/societies descriptions? Can I feel lucky about it, or are my dreams to far to contemplate? |
#8BRJNAug 15, 2003 23:08:19 | Originally posted by Astinus of Palanthas I hope Bruce or somebody who really knows sees this and can comment intelligently. My 2 domars: There will not be a Gazetteer in the normal sense, in part because they are using a number of maps with mutually contradictory details. Bruce seems to have developed a campaign set in the Mississippi River delta, if his discussions elsewhere are any indication. I would like to see a contest (I entered a cryptic alliance contest once and came in ... well, there was only a first-place prize and I didn't win it ) but the idea has been floated before and Bruce was not encouraging. Of course, that may change if GWd20 sells like hotcakes (I hope). I would like to see a Gazetteer Supplement or something similar with a bunch of places and descriptions that GMs can pick and choose the ones they like and drop them into their campaign. These places should be no more than a half-page long at most. Example (actually a pun): .Village of Perrier. This village is so called because its spring-fed water supply is clean and free of impurities, especially poisonous and radioactive ones. Water from Perrier can be sold for up to the price of fine wines, depending on how dry and/or contaminated the surrounding region is. |
#9zombiegleemaxAug 16, 2003 9:08:51 | Originally posted by Astinus of Palanthas We really do need to get a FAQ for the new Gamma World going, as this question comes up a lot. OK, the new GW doesn't provide a fully detailed setting out of the box (unlike, say, the Alternity version). Bruce Baugh (the developer) did this deliberately. What we do provide is a toolset that lets you fairly easily create your own game universe, based on where you currently live (or anywhere else that you would like to set your games). I wrote fairly specific guidelines on the steps you need to go through to "blow up your neighbourhood". I also wrote quite detailed community rules as well. I created six example settings that are included in the player's handbook, and each one has an example community. Not all of these are in North America. There are no plans at this stage (to my knowledge) to create a Gazeteer. I could be wrong though. I also don't believe there are any plans to hold a contest of any kind. I've certainly heard no mention of it. cheers Geoff (one of the GW PHB authors) |
