Jul 06, 2003 12:23:39 A storm was brewing over the Sea of Silt, and great clouds of dust were beginning to churn above the horizon. It was sunset, and the light cast by the crimson sun had set the sky aflame. They say that the most dangerous time to be traveling the silt is before a storm, but we were behind schedule with our shipment and decided to take our chances. Our skimmer captain was excellent, and the crew was as experienced as they come.

I don’t recall much of the attack, except that I was amazed at how quickly such a huge beast moved. It rose out of the silt beneath our bow, using its body to smash much of the port side. It’s hide was naturally pale, although the light from the sun gave it a fiery wash of yellows, oranges, and reds. It’s head was huge and flat, with a monstrous mouth that could easily swallow a full grown mul. I can’t tell you how long the thing was, although it towered above us and still had much of its length hidden in the sands.

We lost five of the crew before the beast was repelled, and almost half of the skimmer was all but destroyed. Thankfully we managed to steer to the shore, and the crew disembarked for repairs as the storm began to swell. The captain told me that we had been attacked by a silt drake and that the creature could attack again at any time. Luckily for us, the monster did not return throughout the night, and the crew worked against the weather and darkness to conduct repairs.
