Wouldnt it be easier to just combine them? Or at least, give a bit more uniqueness to them? I mean, aside from fanfiction, i cant think why i'd want to go to Dragonlance.com instead of the Nexus. Maybe i'm missing something? Oh, and when will you guys review the DLCS? |
#2zombiegleemaxJul 08, 2003 23:35:38 | I asked this a while ago in a chat session, and it seems they're perfectly happy with having two. |
#3talinthasJul 08, 2003 23:36:30 | but it seems awfully wasteful, dont you think? |
#4jonesyJul 08, 2003 23:42:03 | Yeah, but they are not on the same server are they? They get double the visibility on the net and double the backup. |

The reason why they're not the same is (among other things) that the official website for WotC can't have fan fiction. Also, Matt runs a tight ship along with Sean and Trampas, and updating each website is increasingly easier on them. You can be sure that with every revision of each site that you notice it's not just asthethics and end-user functionality that improves but also these guys' workload when posting updates. |

#7DragonhelmJul 09, 2003 1:11:57 | You will find that there are several areas where DL.com and the Nexus overlap. When Matt and I initially met with Sovereign Press, we realized that we needed one site that not only had name recognition, but also one that could grow as Dragonlance grew. Dragonlance.com was the obvious choice. At the same time, the Nexus has become one of the top DL sites out there, and has a good community presence. Unfortunately, we can't post fan fic on it, due to WotC's rules. Long story short, we decided that both sites were still needed for a variety of reasons. The Nexus would become the uber-gaming site, and DL.com would be the overall, well-rounded site. We have one official website for WotC, and another for Sovereign Press. The partnership between the sites has been a very good one. I feel that they are both stronger due to it. |
#8zombiegleemaxJul 11, 2003 14:09:34 | As with almost any subject, you can find a website about it by going to *place subject here*.com. :P So if they were really interested in dropping one site and keeping the other, it would be Dragonlance.com they would keep. I imagine that gets more hits from people who are just discovering dragonlance on the internet, and then they can find their other ways to get info from there. I think they're doing pretty good with two sites. Don't forget the hundreds of less-complete sites about dragonlance that are out there. ;) |

The sites both share the database and the same code base as a whole, so updating one is the equivalent of updating the other. As a result, it's not really "double the work" or anything of the sort, which makes it feasible to keep both running. |
