#1zombiegleemaxJul 10, 2003 9:03:24 | I've been away from the boards for a while, as I've said a couple of times, but were these really serious thoughts about DS: - Time traveling Avangions? - Space traveling halflings from the blue age? - Dogs and Cats living together? :D |
#2zombiegleemaxJul 10, 2003 10:13:35 | Time traveling Avangions was just a rambling bit of ideas. It is entirely comprised of what you read in the thread, start to finish. Just a few people letting their brains ooze onto the keyboard and nothing more. It err, sounded cool when we were talking about it, but when you break it down like that, yeah, it can seem lame. Killer Halflngs From Outer Space. Well, this is actually quite serious. Its going to be the most ground breaking, Athas shattering event that will make the Fall of Kalak, the Death of Bory's, heck even the impending Kreen Invasion all seem like mere footnotes in the history of Athas. This idea started up from someone's dialog with Lynn Abbey, wherein she mentions something about there being Rhulisti living on one of the moons of Athas. A search through the old mailing lists will reveal a little more detail. A few people scoffed at the idea of Spelljammer style crazed halflings that shall decend upon Athas in a torrent of wild abandon, laying waste to the already decimated population of the Tablelands. Others however, have taken up the call. These giant space hamster riding halfings will be the pinnacle of Dark Sun's acheivements and its mark shall be felt in the entire gaming community for generations. The idea is fully supported by the core team at Athas.org and once funding has been established, there will even be a Sci-Fi Channel min-series about the conquest of Athas by the Killer Halflings. This bit of running jokes is actually based on poor Lynn Abbey's simple comments and shall continue to be a knee slapper for some time. Dogs and Cats living together is, unfortunately, a complete and total farce. Since the cats are nothing more than polymorphed wemics and the dogs are shape changed gnolls, the alignment differences made the first innitial co-habitation attempts too strained. Dogs and cats have since tried two more time to form a peaceful nation, but to no avil. Negotiations are still coninuing, but things look as bleak as ever. The War of the Paw and Claw rages ever onward . . . |
#3jon_oracle_of_athasJul 10, 2003 10:30:37 | If I might add, the Messenger is the halfling mothership. |
#4zombiegleemaxJul 10, 2003 10:32:55 | All shall be revealed in time . . . phear the halfing. . . |
#5xlorepdarkhelm_dupJul 10, 2003 10:46:24 | Time traveling Avangions is my fault - overactive imagination combined with multi-track thinking means sometimes I go off on some wierd tangents (and takes a while for me to reorganize my thoughts). I threw it out there if others wanted to use it, I thought it was cool, seemed to fit (but a rather large pothole was found in the idea) so who knows. |
#6zombiegleemaxJul 10, 2003 11:56:16 | I suppose if done correctly the time traveling avangion wouldn't be too bad of an idea. But I would see how care would need to be taken to get it right! The spacefaring halflings using the messenger as their mothership is just inexcusable. I know that nobody here came up with that idea so I suppose that I can say that without fear of reprisal. |
#7jon_oracle_of_athasJul 10, 2003 12:07:59 | Anyone want to join my Attack of the Killer Tomatoes DS campaign? I figure it will be composed of three rotten adventure modules and be against the spirit of the setting in every possible way. Oh, and it uses the Kobolds Ate My Baby RPG rules. |
#8zombiegleemaxJul 10, 2003 12:14:19 | :pile: I'm on the bandwagon! Count me in! |
#9jon_oracle_of_athasJul 10, 2003 12:27:16 | Actually, I think we'll do a complete rip-off (it can't get any worse). Consider the campaign expanded to 6 adventures! Episode 1: Undead Menace Episode 2: Attack of the Kreen Episode 3: Perhaps the Kenku ate your baby?* Episode 4: A new hope - Dregoth's Ascension Episode 5: The Kreen Empire Strikes Back Episode 6: Return of the Space Halflings * Seen the Seinfeld Episode where Elaine says "Perhaps the Dingo ate your baby"? |
#10zombiegleemaxJul 10, 2003 12:34:54 | Holy leaping lemmings, Super Jon, that's gosh darn AMAZING! Actually, I'd almost love to see a Dark Sun parody. Something to lighten things up after having your Nth PC in a row get eaten by tembos. |
#11jon_oracle_of_athasJul 10, 2003 12:48:43 | Hmm... I need some random encounters. Nyte, could you do a monster write-up of the Athasian Lemming? It should be really, really, really vicious. Stupid, but collectively creative, and very, very, very dangerous. Thanks, Mach, for the idea. EDIT: You and your tembos. But which is worse for your reputation - being killed by tembos or lemmings? Oh, wait, you don't need to do lemming write-ups, Nyte - we've already got the z'tal. |
#12nytcrawlrJul 10, 2003 13:11:42 | Remember the quickling? Evil brownies with bad attitudes on speed? Allowed them once in a DS campaign I ran, had them exist on the other side on an island that was ruled by the Irda, they were constantly fighting each other. Don't worry, I'm much better now, got off my medication. Just some random thoughts. /me mumbles something about space hamsters and cheese |
#13jon_oracle_of_athasJul 10, 2003 13:17:14 | The campaign revolves around finding out about and mastering a new form of supernatural power which is really the essence of magic - CHEEEEEEEESE. This is also a rip-off, from Forgotten Realms, cheese that makes halflings stoned. While using the power of CHEEEEEEEESE, any non-halfling can control vast arcane magical energies - which is the true secret to the Champions of Rajaat's powers - the Dark Lens itself is actually made of CHEEEEEEEESE. Obviously, since halflings become stoned by CHEEEEEEEESE, they are unsuitable as Champions of Rajaat. It all makes perfect idiotic sense. |
#14zombiegleemaxJul 10, 2003 13:20:44 | Originally posted by Jon, Oracle of Athas It is quite sad when Dregoth is a new hope for the planet. :D |
#15nytcrawlrJul 10, 2003 13:27:10 | Dregoth rules. And halflings aren't the only ones that get stoned eating cheese, maybe that's why I can't be a wizard. |
#16zombiegleemaxJul 10, 2003 13:29:17 | So presumably all that cheese explains why Athas's halflings are slowly metamorphosing into Ewoks. And I thought Dregoth was the new hope for the setting after the designers suddenly realised that Troy had killed off all the other bad guys. |
#17jon_oracle_of_athasJul 10, 2003 13:29:37 | I think that's just you and food containing dairy products in general, Nyte. First eggrolls, now cheese. Geeze. |
#18nytcrawlrJul 10, 2003 13:33:13 | mmmm Eggrolls... |
#19zombiegleemaxJul 10, 2003 13:49:15 | Originally posted by NytCrawlr Oh indeed Dregoth is the man. The whole story of what happened to him and Guistinal, and then his eventual ascention just gives me goose bumps. It is just sad that Athas' hope is Dregoth. ;) |
#20nytcrawlrJul 10, 2003 15:04:39 | Originally posted by Jon, Oracle of Athas Another name for #2: Don't tell Mom the Kenku ate the baby. |
#21nytcrawlrJul 10, 2003 15:08:19 | Originally posted by Jon, Oracle of Athas I do! Reminds me of those adds I saw of that one RPG that was totally against Elves that took itself way too seriously, now if I can just remember what the name of it was. |
#22GrummoreJul 10, 2003 16:03:09 | Since everybody is smoking crack right now, why not the silly frog! We will make explode the FROG MUHAHAHAHA !!! ok ok Episode 7 - Encounter at Grak's Pool (see encounter at far point STTNG) Episode 8 - Nibenay's templars surprise party (in adult section) |
#23nytcrawlrJul 10, 2003 16:09:35 | I truly miss our crack smoking sessions Grummore, truly. Why don't you call anymore? :D I think I'm liking Episode 8, we can only invite the high, naked, templars though, although having a few of the lower, topless around might add a nice touch. |
#24jon_oracle_of_athasJul 10, 2003 17:42:32 | I'll have you know the Shadow King is a personal acquaintance of mine. He will not be pleased to learn what you two conspirators are planning. |
#25zombiegleemaxJul 10, 2003 18:27:37 | Hmmm! I have a templar of Nibenay playing in my current campaign. I haven't mentioned that little detail yet. Daresay I'll get round to it! |
#26star_gazer_02Jul 10, 2003 18:35:33 | You people worry me, sometimes. Ah well. At least I can see a trend for more and more game discussions, which is badly needed here on the boards. Too many rules discussions IMO. My 0.2cp |
#27nytcrawlrJul 10, 2003 18:52:13 | Amen Roger. |
#28jon_oracle_of_athasJul 10, 2003 19:32:16 | Actually, it's just my rubbish comments flooding the place and infecting every thread. |
#29nytcrawlrJul 10, 2003 22:07:34 | Originally posted by Afghan How could you miss that detail? :D |
#30jon_oracle_of_athasJul 11, 2003 5:11:33 | Out of curiosity, is the player male or female? :D |
#31nytcrawlrJul 11, 2003 11:39:50 | One would hope she's female, but hey to each his own. :D |
#32zombiegleemaxJul 11, 2003 11:59:26 | Yeah, just to end the filthy speculation, the player is indeed female. But she's travelling incognito. Probably even more incognito after what happened to the party wizard. My players don't seem to like defilers one bit. |
#33nytcrawlrJul 11, 2003 12:06:04 | Heh, yeah. I had a guy play an evil preserver that like to play with undead, he didn't have the gonads to play a defiler in the group he was in. Needless to say he didn't like the idea of his character tree being all evil, so he decided he was going to take his wizard out in a most unusual and dramatic way, however it didn't turn out anywhere near what he was wanting. The party ran into some fire mephits, and they seem to be taking the hurt, when the evil preserver decided to cast the reverse of enlarge on the party's half giant. Not only did this tick off the half giant but it earned a rather quick death of the wizard. The half giant swung around and criticaled the wizard so bad that he sliced him in half. The player playing the half giant usually does one of two things with his evil dice of bad fortune, he either misses all the time, even though he only needed a 3 or more to hit, or he crits and does so in a way to incur massive damage. This was back when I used Skills and Powers and such. Just had to be there, it was classic. :D |
#34KamelionJul 14, 2003 1:30:29 | Reminds me of those adds I saw of that one RPG that was totally against Elves that took itself way too seriously, now if I can just remember what the name of it was. Talislanta. It was called Talislanta. Heh heh - "no elves!" was their big selling point. That, and a campaign setting that makes Empire of the Petal Throne look sketchy. And the Messenger is TOTALLY the rhulisti mothership. Darth Thes Onel is closer than you think... |
#35nytcrawlrJul 14, 2003 1:42:10 | Yes! Now I remember, danke. |
