What, if anything, does the DLCS say in regard to outsiders and extraplanar creatures (in effect, any creature not native to Krynn)? I know that from time to time, a wizard or cleric will conjure an elemental or summon a demon, but what about creatures that have never before been seen on Krynn?
Would you think it likely that maybe Takhisis is served by a few drow priestesses on her homeplane? As a goddess of darkness and evil, she very well might, eh?
In game terms, I was thinking that maybe highly knowledgeable and powerful spellcasters might know about and be able to summon creatures "from the Beyond." Say, the heroes arrive to stop Wyrlish, the high priest of Takhisis from completing the draconian ritual. Wyrlish takes one look at the heroes, summons a beholder, and sics it on them. Imagine the looks of horror on their faces as this "many-eyed thing" starts tearing them apart with magic rays!
I'm basically asking if you think its possible (would you allow it in your games) to use conjurations to call non-native Krynn beings just for the express purpose of making it harder for the PC's? I'm not talking about entirely introducing new species to Krynn (no drow setting up an Underdark in Krynn, for example), but just having one show up (always by being summoned there) to combat the PC's on occasion. Would you do it every now and then? Or not at all? Why or why not?

I'm all for the inclusion of varied and strange creatures, with the emphasis on varied and strange. Drow have been overdone to death, but beholders & other such creatures would work (there are 4-5 beholder references in Krynn, btw).

Takhisis is lawful evil, and drow are chaotic evil.

As it happens, we'll talk some about how to use all kinds of creatures, both extraplanar and not, in Dragonlance campaigns in the Bestiary. It's one of the things I'm most concerned about.

Cheers,

Dragonlance Adventures is set up in a way that you can take characters from other worlds and import them into DL.

The original take on mad gnomes was that they were gnomes from other worlds, who could make things that work. This evolved some through the years to mean gnomes who made things that actually worked.

When I use up all the monsters Krynn does have (either from the MM or unique to it) then I might consider doing something like this. But for now, I still have a long list of monsters to introduce to my players without needing to use... shall we say, less orthodox ones. :88E:

And besides, you can do what you want in your game. As long as you're having fun, go right ahead and put a psionic werewolf drow fighting a horde of orcs enthralled by a illithid all the while a legion of devils and demons bring the Blood War from the lower planes through a gate right in the middle of Solace.

well, there are yaggol...it could be that in lieu of psionics, they discovered mysticism, and were allowed to mess with minds anyway...
