#1zombiegleemaxJul 26, 2003 14:51:30 | In my new campaign I am about to start, I plan to use Mindscapes from Malhovic Press. Have any of you used it? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Tell me how it went. If you are unfamiliar, Mindscapes is a psionic sourcebook written by Bruce Cordell. It has an alternative system for psychic combat that is very interesting. It reminds me a little of the psionic battles in the Prism Pentad with Rikus and Tithian. Granted, I read those when they were first release and have drank many glsses of tequila since then and forget much of the books, but hey. You can learn more about Mindscapes at www.montecook.com Click the Malhovic link and start lookin'. |

Psionic combat goes like this: Psionic creatures and psionis characters exist in two forms: psionic avatars and material bodies. When they get close to each other, the psionic forms may become aware of each other, causing a mindscape to form. The mindscape resemles one of six terrain typs: mountains, plains, sea, etc. This affects the psionic portion of the combat. All psions know all 12 modes. Before the psions do anything, they make an opposed roll based on their base Mode modifier, abilityscore mod, terrain mod, and mode mod. The winner gets the desired effect based on the mode they chose for the real world action they take. This could augment a combat strike, a power used, or it could be defensive. Each of the 12 modes have three options. The worse the modifier you select, the better the effect. This is a book I suggest. It's nothing like I expected. It's better. Cordell is one hip cat. |
