What about making the Trader class from 2ed into an NPC class? I haven't heard anything about it, so I assume that it was dropped. I don't know of anyone who played it anyway, so that's understandable. But would it be a good class to have, or would it be redundant considering the expert can be just as good?

From what I understand you can play a Trader, but they are rogues that select different skills and feats. This isn't that much different than 2nd edition, anyways. Also, if my memory isn't failing me, someone was working on a Trader prestige class as well.

It's redundant. Nearly everything the old trader had going for it is covered by the 3e skills. And, seeing as nearly all of the relevant skills are class skills for the Rogue, and available to the expert, it's more of a profession or a character concept than it is the basis for a class.

I have been intermittently working on a collection of feats meant to represent a trader's various options, with a single prestige class for more specialised house agents (it's been on hold while I got 3.5 and did revisions and stuff). The old draft is kindly being hosted by Jon at his Athas Online site. Fellow trader-freak Grummore has also been busy with traders for a while - his work is more based around the class than the feats and is on his website. Check it out!

Yeah! That's well said Kamelion! Which btw as a really interesting Trader based on feats. I had started a PrC (I already have one but am not satisfied) which I should post some days or another when I get the time.

I think I will read through Kamelion Trader again and see if I can merge both. I will email you that Kamelion when it's done. I wouldnt mind seeing a class more balanced between your Feats type and my abilities type.

Btw, my site address is in my signature.

AND for Flip, of course it's gonna be redundant if you stick with the old ability... read the Kamelion essais and mine and you will see there much interesting ideas and it is NOT all redundant. In each class you always have a certain amount of redundant things, so as the trader.

I said nothing about doing trader prestige classes. That's fine. I'm saying that it's totally redundant for a core class ... the competencies of the trader class werel all already covered. Creating a whole new 20 level core class for what is basically a profession wasn't really high on the list of things to do.

However, a Great House Trader is more or less the exact sort of thing that Prestige Classes are designed to cover.

"Great House Trader" - cute name

Grummore, I'll be sure to send you any updates that I do (got one planned for the next couple of weeks, if I get the time) and we can put our trader heads together...
