#1zombiegleemaxAug 01, 2003 3:16:29 | I'm new here and this may have been asked before (I didn't check). But if you were to pick a DL Character that best fits your personality who would it be? I stated in a different thread that mine is Sir Gerard. I relate to him. I want for good to prevail and I try to carry myself with honor. I don't back down from the task at hand. And I also feel that sometimes ways and ideas need to be changed for the circumstance at hand. Sometimes doing what is right does not mean doing what others "think" is right. And finally outward appearances don't mean anything, it really is what is inside that counts. Well, that is what I got from him. I'd like to hear yours and why you feel that way. BTW a little background on me....I love DL I've been reading them for over 13 years now. My favorite books are the Twins Trilogy's. My favorite old school characters were Tanis and Raist (just like everybody else ) and my least fav was Riverwind. My fav evil characters were Lord Soth, Raist and Dalamar (no order). I hated Saga rules, and banishing the Gods. I like how they've fixed it though and I'm looking forward to the future. My kids are about old enough that I'm going to start reading them the books. Everyone should have an opportunity to experience Krynn. |
#2zombiegleemaxAug 01, 2003 3:32:16 | Hm, an interesting question and not as easy as it first appears. Of course, as egotistical as my first reaction is I start to think Raistlin, but then who doesn't? He's the underdog, fighting to be better than the weakness that he has been bestowed with. He also has biting sarcastic wit, which I am a big proponent of. :D Now this is Red Mage Raist I'm talking about. Black Mage Raist/Fistandantilus is a whole 'nother matter and won't even begin to compare myself to him, although I wish I had his force of personality and conviction. Yeah, sure he was evil, but he knew what he wanted and he took it. He let nothing stand between himself and his ultimate goals. I'm an absent-minded scatter brain who constantly picks up things and stuffs them into his pockets. Guess what other character I identify with! Tas, and the entire Kender race, touch a part of our inner child that make us identify with the little fool. Me, with an inner child so prevalent that my favorite shirt says "I have the Dark Cooties" with a picture of a hilarious cartoon cootie saying "I am a cootie. I am dark.", I identify with Tas on a horrible number of levels. Never been a knight at heart so no Solamnics in my personality tree. Caramon to dull and stupid for me. Who else do I identify with? Ah! Of course! GNOMES! I love gnomes. Being one of those guys that everyone labels a "genius" (not a genius, but high schoolers don't understand the difference between intelligent and genius, or the difference between their head and a rock for that matter) I have always been a sort of Mad Scientist. Dreaming up implausible creations and thinking about stuff that has no reason to EVER be thought about (see: M-Theory *shudder*). I love Gnomes. I'm a gnome. nomes all the way. So all in all I'm Raisty Mc'Gnomey Burrfoot. I'm a Knome Magus at heart and I know it. Half-Kender, Half-Gnome, All Archmage! |
#3zombiegleemaxAug 01, 2003 3:45:12 | I think of myself as a renegade good kender wizard which had a mission to do (stop the Irdas from releasing Chaos) but didnt do cos of smthings I dont want to talk about and as a punishment I became a death kender just like Lord Soth :D |
#4lugnut71Aug 01, 2003 10:44:35 | The High Blurp because I think I rule over everyone at my house and they just ignore me. |
#5zombiegleemaxAug 01, 2003 13:12:01 | I would have to say Tanis. On the outside Tanis looked like he was in charge and everything was ok .. but inside it was different. I'm a Christian and I do my best to live the life I should. To everyone around I lead a perfect life. I've gotten praise from people that I don't think I deserved. I have a few deamons in my past that I wish I could get rid of (not anything real bad), and I feel if others knew what they were .. it might change their opinion of me. So like Tanis I have this inner turmoil I wish I could be rid of. (In actuality I don't let this get me down too much ... I have gotten forgiveness for what I've done, but from time to time I think of things.) |
#6jonesyAug 01, 2003 14:58:04 | I'm benevolent like Raistlin, strong like Tasslehoff, dexterous like Caramon, arrogant like Tanis, loudmouthed like Riverwind, vile like Sturm, ugly like Laurana, religious like Kitiara, adventurous like Flint, shy like Tika and weak like Lord Soth. |
#7zombiegleemaxAug 01, 2003 19:21:10 | I always identified with Tanis. It seemed that he never felt like he truly belonged to either humanity or elvenkind, and being of mixed heritage always allowed me to be able to sympathize with his struggle to belong. Even though he was a good leader he also doubted himself a lot which I do also. |
#8zombiegleemaxAug 01, 2003 20:01:48 | Palin. Deffinitely Palin. |
#9zombiegleemaxAug 01, 2003 21:36:34 | Sturm -- complete with cool moustache! |
#10zombiegleemaxAug 02, 2003 0:05:28 | I'm just any basic kender, anything thats not bolted down will end up in my pocket, and I like to find small holes in what someone says and use it to do things I shouldn't:D |
#11zombiegleemaxAug 02, 2003 6:15:05 | Originally posted by HiddenValor U r not a true kender :P if smthing is bolted down u should just unbolt it and take it with u. It's dangerous for smthing to b bolted down for some reason I'm not gonna specify, it's best that I take it with me bfore someone gets hurt :P |
#12nasheenAug 02, 2003 7:39:47 | Steel Brightblade |
#13daedavias_dupAug 03, 2003 23:34:09 | Tanis and Palin, for different reasons. |
#14zombiegleemaxAug 04, 2003 10:26:17 | Hmm. I'd have to go with Tas. I'm short, I talk a lot, I love telling stories, I have wicked bad wanderlust, I like everyone when I first meet them, I can be optimistic, and sometimes I end up with pens, pencils or other objects that don't belong to me and I swear I have no idea where I got them. Oh, and I think stealing is very very bad. But, I do have a bit of Raistlin. I can be dark and sarcastic. I have a bit of a 'full of myself' problem at times. I hate authority and I often feel that I got the short end of the stick in life. I share a lot of qualities with all the main DL characters. I love to eat like Caramon, I've got a temper (and the red hair) like Tika, I hate lying like Sturm, I hate boats like Flint, and I can be a whiney baby like Laurana used to be. I think that's why we love Dragonlance so much. There's a little of every character in all of us. |
#15zombiegleemaxAug 04, 2003 10:31:21 | Originally posted by jonesy hahaha. At first I was like 'wait a minute Raistlin's not benev...' And then I was like 'oh'. |
#16zombiegleemaxAug 05, 2003 10:49:14 | I am alittle shocked that a few more girls did not pick up on this thread. I would really consider myself as a Tika. I am a red head and I totaly see where Tika is coming from all of the time. Red Heads are famous for having bad tempers and if something does not work the first time they find a diffrent way to continue. Tika shows that very well when she first starts out with the group. Also a red head is a fast learner. I am all of those qualities, so I say that I am most like Tika. |
#17lhmloaAug 05, 2003 12:10:33 | I've always identified with Sturm. |
#18zombiegleemaxAug 06, 2003 15:23:36 | I would say Dalamar. I would definitely be a mage. I would definitely be an elf. In all likelihood, I would be a dark elf. I am not cocky enough (or typical enough) to say "I would be Raistlin" but I would definitely jump at the chance to study under him (ouch, my chest!). Dalamar suits me. He has quiet ambition. Not as evil as most but certainly not good. Looking out for number one but not in such a chaotic way. He wears the black robes (and indeed proceeded into Necromancy) and he can be quite abrupt but you never really get the impression that he is EVIL. He is somewhat of a paradox, like Tanis without the heroism attached. Yep, that's me. |
#19zombiegleemaxAug 06, 2003 17:13:45 | I think the DL characters are wonderful because they describe so many aspects that could be attributed to all of us. I've been studying the Grand Argument Theory of Story, which states that the whole of a story us actually just a single problem that a single mind is trying to work out. All the characters are just different aspects of our psychology combating or helping each other. So, for me, I can identify with most or all of the characters. Caramon = my wanting to do good, but the conflict of my loyalties and emotion. Raistlin = my ambition and my cynical nature. Tass = my wanting to be innocent, to believe everything will work out. Flint = my stubborness, resistance to change; my wanting to be fatherly to those in need. Sturm = My single-mindedness, my wanting to see the world in black and white Tanis = My conflict between my responsibilties and my selfish nature. My want to do good fighting with my want to be happy. My struggle to find my place in the world. My tendancy to let my friends get me in trouble ;) I could go on about all the other characters, but these are the main six, in my opinion. As you can see, I think we can find ourselves in all of the characters... Which one do I most identify with? Probably Tanis... Someone who always concerns himself with the problems of other, always putting his own problems on the back-burner (although, they flare up unexpectingly from time to time). The quiet, thoughtful one, searching for the way through the woods. |
#20zombiegleemaxAug 07, 2003 10:52:28 | I think I best identify with Laurana. Not the spoiled brat that we first meet, but later after Sturm dies. She has the responsibility of everyone looking to her for answers and she just feels like she is overwhelmed and under-qualified. Most of the time I just go with it and give people the answers they want..... but there are times I just want to scream " How can I tell you what you need to do when I haven't even figured out what I should do!!!???!!!" ~Khrystyne |
#21brimstoneAug 07, 2003 12:18:22 | I don't know if there's an actual character that suits me very well, but I do know an organization that does. That would be the Legion of Steel. Their vigilante style of justice fits my personality pretty well. And it gets me into trouble more times than I can count. I try to be/do good...but sometimes it doesn't come across that way...I think the Legion is the same way. They seem to have the sort of attitude of "the ends justify the means" which is a very controvesrial attitude. And I don't know if I subscribe to that mentality...I kind of go back and forth on it, ya know? Anyway...that's about as close as I can get to being like someone in DL. Now, if you want to talk about people I wish I were like...we could go on for hours. ;) |
#22iltharanosAug 08, 2003 2:09:58 | Not counting Raistlin ... I'd go with Kang the Bozak draconian engineer. Sure he was created for evil, but he's broken out of that mold, rallied his people through tough times and even founded his own nation. Not bad for one warped offspring of a corrupted good dragon egg. |
