Isn't it sad...

...that they don't make any of the planescape books anymore? It's also sad that my psionicist's handbook is coming unglued (I suppose it's a combination of it being old and me using it too much in the short time I've possessed it)...

I mean, this has so much more gameplay potential than some of the stuff they still put out by the ton -- I know the workings of Call of Cthulhu, I GM Wheel of Time and I have tinkered with the idea of doing a D20 modern campaign (and decided that what I'm going for is more of a homebrew than anything with this particular campaign) but geez...Planescape ruled...it still does

Our forgetful DM (who shall remain nameless but will be remembered by the fact that he often forgets to wake up, forgets where he lives, and frequently forgets who he's dating) for Planescape rages to this day at WotC for several reasons

1. they don't make Planescape anymore
2. they "ruined" D&D in the version now being shipped out to stores near you (according to him, don't get ****** with me)
3. they keep making more Magic cards so he keeps having to spend more money to get them

ah well...I can walk the Planes if I want to for as long as our DM is buddies with my BF and doesn't forget that even though I like to make fun of him, I like to be included in the RP...

The thing is...Planescape and all the Prime worlds that funneled into it allowed more imagination than all these other games still produced...where has the creativity and non-conventional physics gone?

and Aina looked up at Sigil and laughed at the Clueless bunch before her...

Although I love Planescape, almost all of the D&D settings can be worked creatively if you as a group are creative people.

well...being as I like to play Signers in Planescape, I heartily agree that my imagination is my only limitation...but sometimes what one really needs to get a great game going is a place where the rules of the normal world don't even apply in your dreams (this really gets inexperienced gamers -- aka most of the people I wind up playing with because they somehow one always picks a gnomish race so they can be viewed as planar vermin)...plus it's sort of fun to dispose of old and unwanted PCs by having the Lady of Pain maze them...and things get really interesting when you have all the planar races to choose from...for one thing...

and it's pretty tough to work a Signer into any other world...they'll start thinking that you think you're whatever principal deities they have there...and that's usually not a good thing...

so I suppose it's just that this game provides unbounded imaginatory freedom to me as a Signer...Psionics and magic can mimic the rage to an extent....but in the end, it's much more amusing to imagine yourself out of existance while trying to imagine a walking, talking, banana into existance than it is to animate a banana with more controlled powers...it's really a matter of preferences...like the factions...

Aside from the fact that Planescape is no longer being produced by WotC, there is PLENTY for you to get into a Planescape adventure in 3.5.

1. All the old modules can be converted w/ monster, NPC upgrades and check mods. (May take a little time if accuracy is of issue, but it can be done.)

2. Old Planescape setting guides can still apply.

3. Manual of the Planes provides some 3.0 rule conversions that can assist.

4. PS3E has Chapters 2 and 4 (characters and skills/feats) completed in their beta versions. I.e., you can play planar races through this. (Of course, MM 3.5, Psionics Handbook, FRCS, Races of Faerun and Savage Species also provide ways to integrate "planar" creatures - some completely spelled out, some requiring interpretation and conversion to template form.)

5. Kriegstantz has information on the different factions that he's been building for 3.0 that you could integrate. And Dragon 287 has several of the factions addressed via specific prestige classes if you wanted to try something different (or unique to Planescape).

As such, we already have the makings for Planescape campaigns.
