#1DragonhelmAug 03, 2003 13:06:01 | A while back, we posted War of the Dark Lance on the Nexus, written by Rooks, Rath, and yours truly. This was a look back on one of my favorite Dragonlance campaigns, and had a set of DL rules by Rooks when none existed. Now that the DLCS and Age of Mortals are out (almost in stores), I've been considering returning to Dark Lance for a sequel. I'm just curious if anyone would be interested in such an online product or not. I haven't made any decisions yet. I just want to guage interest. So, what do you guys think? |
#2ferratusAug 03, 2003 13:10:26 | More DL stuff is always good. Even if the "War of the Dark Lance" isn't used personally by me (since I have plenty of adventures already) I would look forward to jacking various parts of the adventure to lift for my own adventures. I'm curious though, will this be the War of the Dark Lance continuity, or will it be "The War of the Dark Lance" in a DLCS post-WoS world? edit: typo |
#3B-naaAug 03, 2003 13:14:03 | Yes, I think that would be a great thing. The War of The Dark Lance was very cool. |
#4jonesyAug 03, 2003 13:34:55 | Do it already. Dark Lance rocked the house. |
#5DragonhelmAug 03, 2003 22:06:45 | Originally posted by ferratus Dark Lance continuity. I'd like to see just what would happen after the WotDL. What things would be the same, what would be different? And...what new types of Dragonlances are there? Jonesy - Just wanted to say thanks for the kind words. I'll give it some thought. The summer has been pretty busy for me, but the fall and winter are a lot more open. Good time for a fan project. |
#6zombiegleemaxAug 04, 2003 0:29:08 | I think a WotDL sequel would be good, but I also think that adjustments ought to be made. Not storyline-wise, just gameplay-wise, I mean. For instance, get rid of the KotC and KotL base classes(maybe replace them with my Knight Base class...lol), etc. |
#7zombiegleemaxAug 04, 2003 6:30:22 | I think That The War of the Dark Lance was an interesting project. I Think you should make a seqeul, It would be interesting to try to see a different timeline, like a "what if" scenario. I would definitly encourage such an undertaking. ~Adam |
#8zombiegleemaxAug 04, 2003 8:10:31 | Indeed...:D. Bring on the sequel. This is one of my favorite unofficial DL products of all time, and since I am also a big fan of 'what-if' type stories - which was the basis for this setting - this news is even more exciting to hear. I hope this does indeed become a reality. |

#10ferratusAug 05, 2003 3:17:55 | I wonder, are any hardcore 4th Age fans considering a divergent continuity when the "War of the Lance" sourcebook comes out next year? Though I like where the setting is now, I have to admit I would be interested in reading a setting without all the *ahem* problems that have plagued the dragonlance setting since the original modules. It would be nice to get to get back to basics and see what a Dragonlance world would be like without sorcerers and mystics, desolations and dragon overlords, the forgettable chaos war, etc. |
#11zombiegleemaxAug 05, 2003 7:48:37 | I'm unfamiliar with the War of the Dark Lance. Is there anywhere I can see the original of this? |

#13DragonhelmAug 05, 2003 9:16:47 | Originally posted by ferratus I'm sure there are a number of people who would be interested in a "back to basics" campaign. This begs a question, though. Should this be the case with Dark Lance? I'm torn on this issue. I could easily see Dark Lance being a "back to basics" alternate setting, or I could see some of the 5th age elements slipping in, albeit redefined. So, what do you guys think? |
#14jonesyAug 05, 2003 9:31:12 | Well, I'd like it to be a continuation of the original Dark Lance, and still bring in the 'new' stuff from the DLCS, like mystics and sorcerers. |
#15ferratusAug 06, 2003 2:55:39 | Originally posted by Dragonhelm I think write the story. If 5th Age elements slip in, it will be because it seems natural to the flow of the story. If you start trying to make them fit, the whole structure of the campaign setting will suffer. So if you are a writing a storyline about a group of holy men and you think "it would make perfect sense if they discover mysticism!" then write it in. If not, not. |
#16brimstoneAug 06, 2003 10:17:11 | Originally posted by ferratus Okay everyone hold onto your hats, but.... I totally agree with Terry on this. ;) Anyway...that truly is the only way to write a story. If you start trying to base the plot around forcing the 5th Age stuff into your campaign, it's going to feel just that...forced. The best way, I believe, is as Terry said. Write the story...and as it comes out, if it is natural for the story to head in that direction, then take it there. If it doesn't...well...Darklance could always be a trillogy. :D |
#17DragonhelmAug 06, 2003 10:27:51 | Originally posted by Brimstone Believe it or not, I agree as well. Anyway...that truly is the only way to write a story. If you start trying to base the plot around forcing the 5th Age stuff into your campaign, it's going to feel just that...forced. I've had some basic ideas in my head for a while now. Cam and I chatted yesterday, and we came up with some good stuff too. So...we'll see. |
#18zombiegleemaxAug 06, 2003 18:13:22 | I say go right ahead ;) I kinda of like the "What If?" divergence every now and then. I remember an alternate Krynn where the First Cataclysm never happeaned, either the Kingpriest was stopped or he suceeded. I think theres a short story that had a post "Kingpriest Victorious" plot, can't recall the title through. |
