In the Age of Mortals Companion, there's a sidebar on allowing generalist wizards to qualify for the WoHS PrC, but they don't gain the enhanced specialization benefit at 1st level. Changing robes would be as easy as changing alignments. Information on how this works is in the class description, at any rate. Cheers, Cam |

If, on the other hand, you just "forbid" one school when you gain the prestige class, (not allow them to cast spells of that school above 2nd level). Then when you wanted to switch robes, all you would have to do is change your forbidden school. So if you had "abjuration" as your forbidden school as a black robe, you turn away from it and choose "necromancy". You would simply have to start learning the levels you missed, and stop casting a few spells that you already know. Since wizards can learn an unlimited number of spells, this is a bit of a setback, but one that be overcome. Much better than it being impossible for specialist wizards to change robes. That seems rather silly to me. |
#5cam_banksAug 10, 2003 7:58:34 | Originally posted by ferratus You will notice that I never said it was impossible for specialist wizards to change robes. In the DLCS, all WoHS are specialists, and rules for changing allegiances are given. Wizards of High Sorcery who change Orders change their school specialization to one of the new Order's schools, declare new opposition schools from those belonging to the other two Orders (if necessary) and can no longer cast spells from schools that are now prohibited. They retain all the Order Secrets they had from the previous Order but may trade them out one at a time for secrets from their new Order every time they advance a level. They lose access to moon magic temporarily until their new god's moon turns a complete cycle, and have an experience penalty until they advance a new level. I brought up the generalist wizard option in response to the specialist wizard requirement, but as you can tell that's not necessarily a direction you need to pursue. Generalist wizards who change Orders will suffer the brief moon magic loss and an XP penalty, and now gain different Order secrets, but that's it. Cheers, Cam |
