The Knights of Solamnia are divided into three parts: Knights of the Crown, Knights of the Sword, and Knights of the Rose. Now my question is, is one faction "higher" in status than the other? As in, is a Knight of the Rose higher than a Knight of the Crown? If so, does that mean that the lowest rank Knight of the Rose is superior in command compared to the highest ranking Knight of the Crown? How exactly does this all work out? And lastly, can someone theoretically become a Knight of the Rose right away, without "completing" his duty as the lower knight factions? |

Jimbo Uth-Blahblah, newly fledged Rose Knight shoudln't be thumbing his nose at Steve the High Warrior, master of the Knights of the Crown. Despite Jimbo being a different tier of duty, Steve has proven himself for much longer and garnered far more respect. |

Then comes the Knights of the Sword followed closely by the Knights of the Rose. As to proceeding to a Knight of the Rose, I think you have to proceed through the Order as they are vital to teaching and preparing you for the responsibilities and commitments of the next level. For most of the books Sturm wasn't a knight, it was something he aspired to become. I believe he either became a KNight of the Crown shortly before his death or became a candidate to become a knight. When Laurana's testimony cleared him of the charges that Derek had brought against him. He underwent the Ceremony that officially marked Knighthood, shortly before the Knights led by Derek attempted to break the seige by directly attacking the Dragon Armies. Though Sturm had wisely decided to disobey orders, and keep the Knights of the Crown (whom he was placed in charge of) inside the tower. For most of the books though Sturm was considered a Squire. |
