#2zombiegleemaxAug 19, 2003 5:13:41 | I think that a mystic would have a lot of difficulties summoning creatures or monsters, but he could teleport himself to an area he had already been or seen, focusing his powers to create a barrier between him and the attacker, shaping the powers to create a temporary sword, necromancy is ok, the most powerful mystics could maybe create elemental-like creatures with no mind (concentrating fire into the shape of an elemental and then using it) they can charm creatures, deal with emotions, ... my opinion |
#3zombiegleemaxAug 19, 2003 8:58:01 | You mention buff spells and things similar to Tenser's Transformation, well ferratus, you have just stumbled upon the bread and butter of the min/maxed (or optimized as some call it with the new board name) melee and archer clerics. You see, with the introduction of the Persistent Spell feat from Tome and Blood, the Character Optimization board crew have noticed that clerics are better fighters than fighters with the right spells. I think that a mystic would be just as good, maybe even better, as they have more spells per day. For those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about, here's an explanation of the b&b spells. Persistent Divine Favor: adds +1/3 lvls luck bonus to attacks and damage Persistent Divine Power: BAB = char level, +6 enhancement bonus to strength and 1 bonus HP per lvl Extended Magic Vestment: makes your armor magical, saves lots of gold Extended Greater Magic Weapon: makes your weapon magical, saves lots of gold Persistent Righteous Might: for melee clerics; increases your size, str, con and natural armor. Extended Spikes: for those with wooden weapons, +1 dmg/lvl up to a max of +10 For an example character, lvl 13, made by myself, click here. Just scroll down to Zirm Letolun. He's from the Realms, but could easily be made almost as powerful in DL. Building upon this, good mystic spells would include the ones that I have listed above and other combat helpers. Flame strike and Blade Barrier are personal favorites of mine. Perhaps spells that let you imbue your weapon with other spells (like letting you make a harm "touch attack" with your greatsword). |

For example, one of the paths of study at the Citadel of Light is Animism, which is plant and animal magic. Imagine having a mystic utilizing the druid spell list to help gain that feel. |

Well, that just goes to show how right I am to hate "splat" books. ;) I do think that "Tenser's Transformation" makes an excellent mystic spell for those with the war, destruction or strength domains. After all, you cast a few spells, and then step on to the battlefeild and cry havok. It would certainly fall into the "channeling" sphere under the old SAGA system. |
