It's interesting to consider how different individuals have shaped these settings or the game as a whole - for instance, to compare the original Greyhawk materials to the current version of the setting. But it seems like this information is something that one gains anecdotally, and sometimes only by interaction with the individuals involved in the formation of the game or the setting. Does anyone know whether anyone has ever written a book about the creation of the D&D game and its development since, including the original settings like Greyhawk and Blackmoor? (This would probably be a book with a limited audience, but - if properly done - wouldn't it be cool?) |

Gygax has written articles and done interviews on this topic many times, as have others. It just takes digging to pull everything together. You might also check out Lawrence Schick's Heroic Worlds and/or The Fantasy Roleplaying Gamer's Bible, both of which are OOP IIRC. Other sources also exist, including www.acaeum.com (a fabulous source for TSR specific D&D publishing history). |
