#1DragonhelmAug 25, 2003 14:34:58 | Hi, guys. I'm working on updating the FAQ (especially after the questions on specialist wizards), and I need your input. Much has changed since the old FAQ, and I need to know what questions you would like to see in it. Please note, I may not use every one, but I will incorporate as much as possible. Here's my rough draft. Let me know what else you would like to see. Thanks! Trampas ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dragonlance Boards FAQ SECTION ONE – DRAGONLANCE GAMING QUESTIONS Do wizards who take the Wizard of High Sorcery prestige class have to specialize? Wizards who take the Wizard of High Sorcery prestige class may elect to be “generalist wizards”. Age of Mortals has a sidebar on this, explaining that you do not have to specialize, but you don’t gain the benefit of enhanced specialization at 1st level. Why are there no gnomish invention rules in the DLCS? I heard they were edited out. Originally, there was a section on gnomish invention rules in the DLCS. The editors felt that this was too much space spent on one race. Therefore, the gnomish invention rules will be seen in a later supplement. Are sorcerers considered renegades by the Wizards of High Sorcery? According to Margaret Weis, sorcerers are considered renegades. Do psionics exist on Krynn? According to Jamie Chambers, Sovereign Press will not be addressing psionics in Krynn one way or the other. The existence of psionics in Krynn will be up to the DM. Some products from second edition, such as Unsung Heroes, state that psionics do not exist on Krynn. Dungeon Masters are encouraged to decide for themselves. SECTION TWO – DRAGONLANCE NOVEL QUESTIONS Will there be another novel in either the Raistlin Chronicles or Kang’s Regiment series? Margaret Weis has said that there will be no new novels in either series. Will there be a novel series detailing Taladas? Not at the current time. What order should I read the books in? Check Dragonlance.com’s product library, which gives a chronological listing of the novels. SECTION THREE – WEBSITE QUESTIONS What is the official Dragonlance website? Is there an official website? Dragonlance.com serves as Sovereign Press' official d20 Dragonlance website. The Dragonlance Nexus is Wizards of the Coast's official website for Dragonlance gaming. Both sites work together to present the best of Dragonlance and Dragonlance fandom. Both sites are run by the Whitestone Council, a group of fans dedicated to Dragonlance. Check my signature for links to both sites. SECTION FOUR – WORLD OF KRYNN Did Lord Soth go to Ravenloft or is that a kender tale? That is up to the individual. Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman maintain that Soth didn’t go to Ravenloft. Wizards of the Coast has said in their 2nd edition Ravenloft materials (as well as novels) that Soth did go to Ravenloft. What is Taladas, and where can I find info on it? Taladas is another continent on the world of Krynn, to the northeast of Ansalon and within the northern hemisphere. Taladas info can be found in the Time of the Dragon boxed set, as well as James O'Rance's wonderful Taladas site. I've heard rumors of a new continent called Adlatum. What's up with that? The new continent of Adlatum is a fan project being produced by the Whitestone Council. OTHER VARIOUS QUESTIONS Will there be a Dragonlance movie? Dragonlance has been optioned to become a new movie. However, there is NOT a Dragonlance movie in production at this time. What do all these abbreviations stand for? AoM – Age of Mortals DL - Dragonlance DLA - Dragonlance Adventures DLCS - Dragonlance Campaign Setting KoS - Knights of Solamnia KoT/KoN - Knights of Takhisis/Knights of Neraka LoS - Legion of Steel TotL - Tales of the Lance boxed set. W&H - Weis and Hickman WoHS - Wizards of High Sorcery WoS - War of Souls WotC - Wizards of the Coast WotL - War of the Lance 4a – The Fourth Age (Age of Despair) 5a – The Fifth Age (Age of Mortals) |
#2brimstoneAug 25, 2003 14:44:42 | Here's a good "someone is getting screwed over" question: If the Dragonlance Nexus is the official website for DL gaming, why is all of the official gaming rules supplimmental material showing up on the WotC website and not the designated Official Gaming website? Just a thought...I don't know...just embittered, I guess. |
#3talinthasAug 25, 2003 21:51:44 | Q. Will there be a new draconian book? A. No. |
#4zombiegleemaxAug 25, 2003 22:04:15 | Ummm, perhaps a quick description on level adjustment and ECL. It seems there are a lot of differing interpretations and confusion between the two terms... Arandur |
#5DragonhelmAug 25, 2003 22:15:51 | Tal - already got the draconian one up above. See the question under novels about the Raistlin Chronicles and Kang's Regiment series. Does that need to be rephrased? Arandur - ECL and Level Adjustment belong on a D&D FAQ, not a DL FAQ. Sorry about that! |
#6zombiegleemaxAug 25, 2003 22:35:43 | Yeah, your probably right about the D&D FAQ rather than DL. Maybe some of the following: Starting funds for the Noble and Mystic classes? Krynnish unique weapons (where they are?) Something about the map? And a lot of requests for DL monsters (and what is allowed)? Perhaps if you let people know where the information will be posted (or which book it will be presented in) or a quick answer they'll be satisfied. These are just some of the questions I think are pretty frequently posted. Arandur |
#7GranakrsAug 25, 2003 22:51:36 | "What do all these abbreviations stand for? 5a – The Fifth Age (Age of Darkness" I would recommend 5a - The Fifth Age (Age of Mortals) :D As for Questions, I'd recommend: Why are the Curse of the Magi rules included in the DLCS? The Curse of the Magi Variant rule was created to bring the role-playing effect seen in dragonlance novels. When Raistlin, and many other mages cast their spells the dramatization of the novels depicted mages becoming tired from casting their spells. Being a variant rule, however, it's up to the DM whether he likes this variant, when he uses the rule. |
#8iltharanosAug 26, 2003 1:19:51 | Here's some: 1) Where are the tables for random starting ages, aging characteristics, height, and weight for kender, centaurs, minotaurs, draconians, irda, ogres, half-ogres? 2) If one chooses to exercise the generalist wizard option in becoming a wizard of high sorcery, are any other requirements waived (besides the school specialization), like the spell focus requirement? 3) Since sorcerers are an unavailable class in the 4th Age, how does that affect characters/creatures that have sorcerer as a favored class? Do they get a new favored class, like wizard? 4) What epic feats are specifically available or unavailable in the Dragonlance Campaign Setting? |
#9daedavias_dupAug 26, 2003 9:08:37 | Originally posted by iltharanos 1A. I got nothing, except kender would probably use the table from the halfling. 2A. No, they would still have to take spell focus, one doesn't even need to take it in their specialist school to qualify. 3A. Such as? 4A. Is there a reason why some should not? |
#10talinthasAug 26, 2003 13:24:53 | don't forget the oft asked question of the reading list... |
#11iltharanosAug 26, 2003 22:35:38 | Originally posted by Daedavias 1R. That's what I've been using so far. 2R. Yep, just had that confirmed in another thread. 3R. Aurak draconians have sorcerer as their favored class. They are present in both the 4th and 5th Ages. Yet the War of the Lance section states sorcerer is an unavailable class ... 4R. The stats for Skie, Malys, and Sable in Game Trade Magazine conformed almost exactly with the rules for advanced dragons in the Epic Level Handbook, with one major exception. Advanced dragons automatically get the improved spell capacity feat a number of times for free and the stats for the previously mentioned dragon overlords lacked these free feats. This begs the question, were they left out because they are unavailable in a Dragonlance campaign or were they left out due to an oversight, or is there yet a third reason? |
#12talinthasAug 26, 2003 22:45:03 | Remember, socerer as a class is allowed for races that have intrinsic magic, like dragons, irda, aurac, and bozak, though bozaks tend to pray for their spells... |
#13iltharanosAug 26, 2003 23:04:38 | Yes. On the flip side, however, what happens to races like the Irda and Silvanesti in the early Fifth Age that have Wizard as a favored class? Because of the absence of the gods during that time, does this mean that these races are just screwed and have no favored class? Or can they gain a substitute favored class ... like sorcerer? |
#14talinthasAug 26, 2003 23:05:39 | irda in the early fifth age might as well not exist. as for sylvanesti, well, they're just screwed. |
#15zombiegleemaxAug 27, 2003 12:29:55 | Please let me know when this is up and running, and I'll link it. |
#16DragonhelmAug 27, 2003 13:11:18 | Originally posted by chonjurer I'll make a note on the boards. Thanks for the continued input, everyone. I'll try to make an update soon. Back to work! |
#17daedavias_dupSep 05, 2003 23:29:32 | Ok, first, make this sticky. Then add things like why the map , invention rules, kender weapon stats, etc weren't included. Then, make a gripes thread like the one for the v.3.5 board. Then proceed to delete any new gripes threads as all they do is plug up the board with repetitive posts that people conviniently ignore 99.9999999999% of the time so they can post their own thread about the same darn thing. |
#18DragonhelmSep 06, 2003 8:29:58 | Yeah, this was an initial thread to get idea for the FAQ, so I'll make a new one soon and have Paradox sticky it. Also, been considering the "***** board" myself. It's a bit tiring seeing complaints on so many threads. We'll see what we can do this weekend! |
