As I was converting a Qualinesti White Robe Enchantress to the new 3.5 and Dragonlance Wizard of High Sorcery Prestige Class I hit, yet another wall, it seems Tower Wizards can only specialize as Abjurers and Diviners! What the hell is wrong with a White Robe Enchantress!! It’s more elven to Charm your way out of a confrontation or use a Hold Person spell on some dumb, hulking, half-ogre than to blast him away with a Lightning Bolt because he was too drunk to know better than to touch an elf! Someone really worked really hard to stump on the High Sorcery wizards. I can’t wait for the Tower of High Sorcery sourcebook; maybe they’ll fix things.

And yes I know it's all subjective. Some people love the new Prestige Class.

Well, I believe that the Age of Mortals sourcebook will have rules for playing generalist Wizards of High Sorcery. You could probably use those same rules to construct a non-standard specialist - however I have a feeling ( can't be sure since I haven't seen the DLCS yet ) that Enchantment may be an exclusive Black Robe specialisation.

The decision was made to isolate 2 schools for each Order which would be their hallmarks. White has abjuration and divination, Red has illusion and transmutation, and Black has necromancy and abjuration. Not coincidentally, since those were the schools the Orders were focused on, the specialization requirements also hinged on them.

If you want a White Robe enchanter, by all means go ahead and make one and ignore the Enhanced Specialization feature and specialization requirements. You'll still have a balanced character, although you'll have to handwave the association between Evil and enchantment for your campaign.

Cheers,
Cam

I know what you mean Cam. I've been doing nothing but "handwaving" Krynn for years. I love Dragonlance. I read the Chronicles in Middle School long before the Hobbit. I find Krynn very enchanting and I work really hard to preserve the Dragonlance mood. I just hate limitations. Following the 2nd Edition rules, White Robes can't learn spells higher than 3rd Level in Illusion or Necromancy.
