#1zombiegleemaxAug 26, 2003 23:48:27 | just doing a little polling. i like hamanu myself, if anyone hasnt read "rise and fall of a dragon king" i strongly recommend it. hamanu is an anti-hero. i based a character of mine around hamanu. the parents of my character were good. they were seeking to become an avangion. hamanu found out and had them killed. his sister and he escaped but lost each other, dont know if the other is alive (they both are). she chose a path of virtue, my character chose a path of vengence. she became an avangion, he escaped the realm and became a dragon-king on another realm using Kalak's method (kalak's method would have worked i think, he just got disrupted). my character founded a city he named new-urik. his tower is in the center of town and looks like the book cover of "rise and fall of a dragon king" (if you dont know the cover it is the same as the cover of the "dragon kings" resource book). both his sister and him eventually want to return to urik and slay hamanu. now that i got that out, sho is your favorite DS character. i will take my characters as a valid aswer. |
#2zombiegleemaxAug 27, 2003 1:39:35 | I was really fond of Aegis (sp?) and remember throwing my paperback across the room when he died. He had finally grasped what it meant to be a true noble, in a world that hardly encouraged such activites, and what happens? His best buddy from childhood knocks him off. Sadira would be a close second, but her back and forth attitude, pining over her two husbands, and holier than thou attitude got rather grating to me. |
#3kilamarAug 27, 2003 7:13:49 | Yepp, Aegis was my favourite too. I think he was simpy too good for the world. Kilamar |
#4KamelionAug 27, 2003 7:19:05 | Rikus. Always Rikus. Who else can you beat up on as relentlessly... and he keeps on coming back for more? Who else can you lie to, manipulate and dump neck deep in the silt... and he still wants to be on your side? Rikus is like those Weeble toys from the 70s: "You can smack 'em, you can whack 'em You can knock 'em all around. They wibble and they wobble But they don't fall down..." Gotta love that rubber-coated mul!! |
#5zombiegleemaxAug 27, 2003 8:25:37 | Tie between Sorak, and Pavek. (or is it Pavak?) |
#6zombiegleemaxAug 27, 2003 10:51:53 | The manipulative monster of a twisted man, right hand of Myron of Yoram, now ruler of Urik after Hamanu's destruction by Dregoth. He now holds Tyr captive by a giant army first led by Hamanu, and now captained by him. A powerful sorcerer psion and a prophet, the insane Demetrius will soon rise to his proper place amongst the champions. |
#7zombiegleemaxAug 27, 2003 11:14:17 | Either... Sadira - flawed hero, with depth and complexities to her character. Non standard attitudes to love, power, and community. or Androponis - I don't know why he's my favorite SK, he just is. I was dissapointed when he was imprisoned, but he can come back. Maybe it's that Balic is so different niche-wise than the other cities, but the bad guy himself has a certain grace and dignity to him. |

#12zombiegleemaxAug 27, 2003 23:04:07 | Toughie. Its a toss up between: The Patchwork Man for being ruthlessly cool (killing off the halflings that were sent to guide the PCs one by one so the little buggers didn't turn around and eat the party). I liked playing him so much that I didn't kill him off in the Dragon's Crown adventure. and Wheelock, the master poisoner for being the most bizarre and cool NPC I have ever run in any game. The fact that he won't speak to any other males except Toth, his assistant, and that he is so far beyond insane that he converses with other voices . . . man, he gave my party the willies every time they had to deal with him. [Edit] Almost forgot my top pick of big bad nasties out there. The one and only Nibenay, the Shadow King. He's just a dity ol pervert with an enormous . . . errr . . . harem, yeah. Got to love a SK who knows the expression "Its good to be king." ;) |
#13heretic_apostateAug 27, 2003 23:17:37 | Originally posted by Cerberysumbralthane Sounds like a homebrew campaign to me. As for me, how about the Oba of Gulg? Shoot, she's got a bunch of druids convinced that she's the best thing for their forest, even though her own people have driven several species of predators to extinction... |
#14zombiegleemaxAug 28, 2003 4:08:06 | i would like to know if any printed books said dregoth killed hamanu too. unless they changed the timeline, hamanu never died..he was pretty much taken out of the timeline and reinserted a couple thousand years later as a mortal. dont want to give the ending away but but i just dont see how dregoth could have killed him. unless dregoth was around a couple thousand or so years later and wanted to kill a mere mortal. the reason i like hamanu is because he was sort of redeemed from his evil ways. now, here is my top 10 list of favorite characters. 1) hamanu 2) rajaat 3) dregoth 4) rikus 5) kalak 6) agis 7) k'kriq 8) tithian 9) sadira 10) borys |
#15zombiegleemaxAug 28, 2003 4:36:10 | A long time ago since I read the books, but who was the main opponent of this tribe-of-one-guy? Sorak? Well, this one`s my favourite - a shame he died! Close after him is Aegis, but it`s good he died, because he wasn`t only a noble, but to noble to live in this world..... .....and there are only DEAD heroes(at least in my campaign:-)=). And normally I don`t like heroes, but this one.... Ah, and yes Hamanu! And btw, as I said, there have been a few years since I read all those books... ....SPOILER for those who want to read that Hamnu-book(forgot the title - sigh!) Wasn`t Hamanu replaced by a doppleganger or something like this - can`t remember correctly? So there`s a Dragon, but not really and it`s not Hamanu... ...damn, I think I`m in the wrong thread, but what da hell...ahhh....Grey, Black, whatever! The fact, that it is Hamnau and it`s not either is cool - excellent idea by Lynn Abbey. Ah ja - Aehm....SPOILER-END |
#16zombiegleemaxAug 28, 2003 7:38:43 | Ok I remember reading about Wheelock but what book is he in? ***SPOILER**** Manu was replaced by the Spirit of the Land of Urik. |
#17jon_oracle_of_athasAug 28, 2003 8:41:05 | Wheelock is described in the Ivory Triangle. |
#18zombiegleemaxAug 28, 2003 10:37:04 | hi guys! Hamanu was killed in my campaign only (well, noone actually saw him die you see, the PCs just saw Dregoth breathing on him, and only molten stone remained...) its not official or something... Hamanu must be dead isnt he? surely Dregoth killed him didnt he? muhahahahahahhahhaaaaa (I hope my PCs dont read this forum as I instructed them). well anyway, Dregoth did killed Hamanu, and it was near Hamanu's vortex in the earth elemental plane where the party tried to kill the vortex using some artifacts given to them by Mon Adderath, now advisor to the throne in Tyr. I forgot about wheelock though, he is the fostering father of a PC I once had. a nasty bard, and both of them are two of my favorites dark sunians. |
#19xlorepdarkhelm_dupAug 28, 2003 14:06:45 | For me, I'd have to say... 1. Hamanu (RaFoaSK rocked) 2. Dregoth (Always liked Dracoliches, in any form or incarnation) 3. Oronis (the only good SK, and IMHO a troubled mind which has many regrets) It's a toss up for the others. |
#20zombiegleemaxAug 31, 2003 12:02:24 | I have seen several references to Oronis and how he is the one good SK , but he does not make any apearances in the books that i have read , what source material is he in and what is his current situation , ie why wasnt he part of the whole rajaat imprisoned thing. |
#21zombiegleemaxAug 31, 2003 12:22:39 | oroins first appearance is in the revised box setting. I think he wasn`t planned originally, but in the revised edition a few news were needed to make the setting not a reproduction of the original one. cya, Geno |
#22PennarinAug 31, 2003 19:31:07 | Originally posted by Cerberysumbralthane The only time the attack on Rajaat was described in any detail was in RaFoaDK, and I guess Lynn Abbey hadn't access to the new material that the game department was coming up with. And anyway, in the congregation scene before the attack and for the attack itself, Abbey left the list of the Champions present in the vague. That way you can decide if Daskinor or Kalak or Keltis or a future Champion athas.org is going to come up with was actually present at these events or not. To see why some info in RaFoaDK is the way it is and not the way it should be, see the explanation from Lynn Abbey herself... http://oracle.wizards.com/scripts/wa.exe?A2=ind0002B&L=dark-sun-l&P=R3696 |
