#2ferratusAug 28, 2003 17:05:39 | Pretty much the standard complaints. Some rules tweaks that need to be done, more geography info required, but above average all things considered. You know, I was thinking today as I was reading this, how there isn't really anything in the DLCS that made me excited. Everything in the book I already knew. Then I figure that this is because Dragonlance never had good boxed sets like Greyhawk or the Forgotten Realms. It was never detailed... and thus it is up to us. The Khotai of Goodlund (the desolation) were never in a published product. They were just on a fan's website on angelfire, which got noticed and used. So it is up to us to create articles and adventures in order to create the history and politics of dragonlance. If it fits with the overall vision, who knows, maybe you'll be smiled upon and get official status for an idea or two. Certainly "Living Dragonlance" will help, and finally make Dragonlance a living and breathing world. |

The space could have been put to better use, like more details on politics or cultures or any of the other things that Simon mentioned in his review. But the book will have tons of new info for me as I haven't really gamed in Krynn (by the time I got serious with DnD, DL was *dead*). Maybe WotC could put out a "revised" DLS kind of like what they did with the Star Wars core book and fix up some things. That would be wicked. |

#5ferratusAug 28, 2003 23:27:26 | Hmm... I don't know what's really wasted space. I would have loved a longer geography chapter more than any of the thing I did get, but I'm sure I'm in the minority. The roleplaying advice is rather trite and needless for myself, whose been playing D&D (off and on) for a decade now. However, I think it is necessary, because the dragonlance setting is primarily going to be for 12-14 year olds, and probably be the first campaign setting they play in. Just one note though, helpless gully dwarves don't give XP because their challenge ratings are too low. ;) Well, unless you're 1st level of course. The 12 or 13 year olds who read this have a 3e mindset, and won't have the 1e and 2e hangups. (*boot squish* DUDE! You just make second level!) The only thing I really don't think was necessary was the first part of the chapter on dragons, which basically reprints stuff about dragons that was already in the monstrous manual. But that's only about three pages. Adventures in Campaign Setting Books are very important. It gives us more maps. ;) |
