#1Gnarley_WoodsmanAug 30, 2003 7:30:09 | Well woTC has gone and done it again. They've pumped out a product that for all intents and purposes is what I have been wanting to see for Greyhawk since the debut of D&D 3.0. The Forgotten Realms Players Guide is now listed on the products page. Forgotten Realms Players Guide This is exactly the type of product that needs to be released for the Greyhawk Campaign Setting. Providing plenty of information to the new Greyhawker and a good amount of "Crunchiness" to boot. If only through harping about it on these boards we could get WoTC to rally behind our setting and release such a product. |
#2zombiegleemaxAug 30, 2003 7:46:06 | I would like to start a letter writing campaign. Not merely email, but actual letters that must be answered in kind. Enough of them directed at the right people would raise some eyebrows, I think. Problem is, every time I write to customer service (or even a Wizo), they give me an generic email address. Does anybody know of an address inside Wizards that would reach the mark? Not a generic address, mind you, but the address of someone with enough clout to make Greyhawk happen for us. If any WizOs read this, could you be so kind as to provide an address for this sacred quest? |
#3Gnarley_WoodsmanAug 30, 2003 8:00:23 | Hmmm..... Something along the lines of what fans did for the original Star Trek Series..... It doesn't matter what address the give you. Just address it to the right person. Say the current D&D product manager. Wizards of the Coast D&D Brand manager PO Box 707 Renton, WA. 98057 Now we jus get everyone on this board to write a letter, and we'll see what happens. |
#4zombiegleemaxAug 30, 2003 12:13:28 | I'm all for that Woodsman. Hopefully it will yield some results. |
#5chaerosAug 30, 2003 12:55:32 | i can do that |
#6zombiegleemaxAug 30, 2003 19:20:18 | I'm gonna take this and run with it. Good idea, Monkeybone. Thanks for the address, Gnarley. |
#7faraerAug 30, 2003 19:44:50 | Greyhawk is defined/represented by the core rules (whatever edition), the last thing it needs is a book of More Spurious Roolz. As a big Realms fan I have no interest in the so-called Player's Guide (which is nothing of the kind: a player's guide is a book with information necessary for players about the world). |
#8zombiegleemaxAug 31, 2003 11:14:43 | Greyhawk's "definition" in the current core books is more like a joke...especially compared to the wealth of material out there that wasn't included. I compare Greyhawk's relationship to the current rules like cans tied to the bumper of a car: it's just kind of along for the ride, and not really on board. |
#9Gnarley_WoodsmanAug 31, 2003 13:47:30 | Sums it up about right. |
#10HalberkillSep 02, 2003 15:56:44 | Apparently one of you guys is also in the Gaming Report's forums. http://www.gamingreport.com/article.php?sid=9954&mode=thread&order=0 |
#11Gnarley_WoodsmanSep 02, 2003 17:33:55 | Well I've sent my letter. |
#12ranger_regSep 03, 2003 4:35:05 | Originally posted by Gnarley_Woodsman You do realize that the aforementioned product is nothing more than a companion to FRCS, updating the crunchy material to 3.5e, whereas the 3.5e core rulebooks which still uses Greyhawk as the default setting ... is already updated? Unless what you're looking for is a compiled and revised Living Greyhawk Journal material updated to 3.5e. |
#13Gnarley_WoodsmanSep 03, 2003 7:13:29 | It is a good point that everything in the core books is Greyhawk. With the exception of the Red Wizards prestige class. What we want is a supplement to the core rules beyond the LGG. Something detailing Greyhawk specific NPC's stats and powergroups/organizations. Some prestige lasees for the Knights of the Heart, and the Scarlet Brotherhoods monks. Greyhawk specific monsters like the Kech, Greyhawk dragon, Mist wolf, and the Suel Lich. Most of the work is done. The Living Greyhawk Gazetteer details all the regions, gives them some hooks, and provides some power groups to begin role playing with. A players guide that would supplement the LGG by providing some crunchy bits would be a step in the right direction. I'd love to see full blown support for Greyhawk on the level of the FRCS, but I am afraid a request for that would go unanswered. We need to take baby steps with WoTC/Hasbro. Get them to release a smaller product to test the waters. If it sells well, then we'll have further poducts forthcoming. If the product sels poorly, then at least we have a 3.5 update with some crunchiness. The phrase is "active support." Thats what I'd like to see. A small release like a players guide akin to the product written for 2e by Anne Brown, only with 3.5e crunchiness is what I'd like to see. Something I can bring to the table, and show new gamers who know only the Forgotten Realms. |
#14zombiegleemaxSep 04, 2003 13:18:42 | WotC already published one, back in 1998, albiet that was before the release of 3rd edition. However, I think such an initiative is a great idea. Release a product with some special GH PrCs, detail some lesser known spells of GH's archmagi, include some stats of high level NPCs in GH, like Tenser, Canon Hazen, and the Mage of the Vale. I don't think the PH does justice to the rich history of GH. |
#15Gnarley_WoodsmanSep 04, 2003 13:22:27 | My point exactly. I want a product of the same type. All it needs to do is supplement the LGG. It already has the regional descriptions. Good Gaming |
