Black Robes can't use any Red Robe spells (and vice versa)?

What's up with that?

Let's say I'm a NE Necromancer. I can't drop Conjuration, Divination, Enchantment, or Evocation, because no one can drop Divination, no WoHS can drop Conjuration or Evocation, and a Black Robe can't drop Enchantment. Thus, I'll have to drop Abjuration, Illusion, or Transmutation. Let's say I'll drop Abjuration and Illusion.

Then I pass the Test of High Sorcery and become a WoHS at level 5. And the only additional school I can drop is Transmutation. Now I can't use any Red Robe magic.

The same goes for Red Robes, too. LN Transmuter, drop Abjuration and Necromancy, then drop Enchantment later. Thus, I can't use any Black Robe magic. Weren't the Red Robes supposed to be the most versatile of the lot?

But the White Robes, they don't have that problem.
A NG Diviner of High Sorcery drops Transmutation and Illusion. I can still use every Black Robe spell, except for Evil spells. And even an Abjurer of High Sorcery could still use either Enchantment or Necromancy.

I might just be misinformed, though, since I've only glanced at the DLCS at the local gaming store.

Age of Mortals has a sidebar on generalist wizards. You don't have to be a specialist. However, you don't gain the benefits of enhanced specialization at 1st level.

or just revert to 3.0 and declare all schools droppable. The idea that a mage cannot drop Divinination is stupid and makes no sense. I let my mages drop whatever schools they want, long as it goes in line with the WoHS.

...during the Age of Mortals. I know that. But what about other ages? Like the Age of Despair. If the generalist variant applied to all Ages, wouldn't it be in the DLCS instead of an Age-specific book?

Won't be doing that.

I'm already doing that in another campaign. Wizards use 3.0 specialization rules, where I haven't already made seperate core classes for that specialization. Right now i have a seperate Conjurer, Illusionist, Necromancer, Evoker, Transmuter and a few others. They are fun to use. Soon I'll get rid of generalist wizards all togther. Legends & Lairs has a great book for the Core Illusionist class, look it up, it can inspire you!! Trust me on that.
