#1rilemSep 04, 2003 13:50:24 | I'm looking for input regarding prestige classes or multi-classing options to use in developing a follower of Xan Yae. I'm working off of a cleric base but felt that, b/c of existing writing on the deity and for flavor reasons as well, that a straight-cleric doesn't really fit either the Abid dal Xan or the D'ai Shatain factions of the church. I'd prefer to modify existing classes rather than to write one from scratch, and want to make sure I'm covering my bases The catch, of course, is that psionics aren't allowed in the campaign and monk-multiclassing rules are enforced. Be a lot easier otherwise, but that's life. I've considered a number of options, looking at PrCs and class mixes that incorporate some divine ability, some monkish aspects and some stealth/shadowy stuff. Some examples: • Sacred Fist: A seemingly obvious choice b/c of the unarmed and divine action, but is one of the most hopelessly botched PrCs, requiring much errata-reading: "They're restricted to touch spells/no they aren't; they don't get domain spells/yes they do; what's with the 5th level spells/it's a misprint ... etc." The changes to damage-reduction in 3.5 pretty much puts the nail in the coffin. • Shou Disciple (from Unapproachable East): A bit more flexible monkish PrC; gets unarmed damage • Shar PrCs: the Nightcloak (Faiths & Pantheons) and Shadow Adept (FRCS) both have shadowy abilities and a bent towards mental powers that seem to fit well with Xan Yae. Any ideas on how to replace the Shadow Weave feat requirements? • Shadowdancer: Another likely option, though kind of hard to qualify for as a cleric • Black Flame Zealot (Unapproachable East): Sort of a weak class, but combines stealth and divine magic. Requires rogue levels to get in. • Shadow Walker Template (Unapproachable East): Interesting +1 ecl template you can aquire from a guild; lots of shadow abilities • Telflammar Shadowlord (Unapproachable East): Lots of neat abilities, but also kind of hard for a cleric to get into. Not sure if I'm missing anything from other sources; any assistance or comments would be appreciated. |

I don't have my books here, I can answer better later(not sure what domains are available to her), but there are many ways to build it. That could make for a fun PC to play. A Ftr3/Clr2 should be good. You could use weapons for a few levels(or don't for RP reasons). As a Human you even have another feat before taking a SaF level. Then you could build Clr and SaF from then on. Maybe another Ftr(4) level in there for another combat feat(II, Improved trip, and the like). Probably not a real good damage dealer or great spellcaster, but interesting PC non-the-less. You make the choice of Domains( War and Knowledge IMO, then Celerity from DotF if Dm allows it). |

Sacred Fist probably does make the most sense for a practioner of da'shon (sp?) — my beef with it is all the legwork it makes you do to track down errata and rework Puissant Fists for the 3.5 DR rules. I might also work in either levels of shadowdancer or the Shadow-walker template, again for flavor purposes. This wouldn't be for this character, but I'm thinking the Shadow Weave might be a fair mechanical approximation of psionics used by Xan Yae and Scarlet Brotherhood clerics, if your DM disallows WOTCs Psi Handbook rules. They become better at enchantment and illusion but worse at other schools, and their spells become harder to dispel by "regular" magic, which would seem to capture some of the psionic flavor (at least until the core psi rules are rewritten, perhaps next year). |
