Since folks have been sharing some of their experiences with the new DLCS and Age of Mortals books, I figured I'd give a brief rundown of how my campaign's going this fall.

Please note that this contains some spoiler information for the Sylvan Key adventure in the DLCS, in case folks are going to play through that.

We started last night with a fresh batch of Dragonlance characters and painted miniatures. My gaming group consists of late twenties and early thirties folks, five of us being parents with the other two being a graduate student and a city council administrator. We've got three toddlers to take care of, and only about three or four hours on a Thursday night twice a month, but it seems to work out!

The characters are a human wizard from Southlund and his sister, a human fighter; a human rogue from Northern Ergoth whose father was a Solamnic Knight killed at the end of the War of Souls; a half-kender mystic whose mother was an afflicted kender refugee on Schallsea; and a Silvanesti elf archer and his traveling companion, a female Kagonesti elf barbarian, both of whom grew up in Southern Ergoth. All of them are 1st-level characters.

Six months prior to the start of the game, the characters were all in Sanction to witness the end of the War of Souls - now they're in Pashin, the backwater town on the border of Khur and Silvanesti. The first adventure consisted mainly of stopping the Herald from being mobbed, which was interesting for many reasons not the least of which was the concerted effort on the part of most of the characters from actually hurting anybody. Lots of unarmed strikes, non-lethal damage, and so on. Plus, when the Dark Knights showed up to break up the brawls on the street, the characters actually ran!

They were told about the Herald's dreams, dreams in which he saw the characters and their destiny to recover the Key of Quinari. To some extent I was worried the players would find this a little forced - some raving bard tells them he's dreamt about them and they need to liberate an elven work of art from a bandit. But, as it turned out, they were keen to kick things off with a little search-and-rescue adventure, so no worries there.

Due to the amount of introduction and backstory, as well as the revision of characters at the last minute and some toddler-wrangling, that's as far as we got. Next time, I imagine there'll be a lot more action and some interesting revelations.

Cheers,
Cam

Well, a lot has happened since then - the heroes were caught by the Dark Knights in Pashin and thrown into the stockade along with Cole, the young pyromancer and an ogre they had run into earlier. They escaped with the help of the elves in Pashin's sewers, but ran into ghouls and an enormous obese ghast before finding the elven settlement. Here they had just enough time to relax and get some advice before the Dark Knights staged an attack on the elves! General Dogah showed up (a departure from the adventure, obviously) and his Gray Robe cohorts firebombed the tent city while his Lily Knights mercilessly dealt with the helpless elven community. The heroes escaped, but not before they got to witness the whole shocking event first-hand.

So, I really did a number on those elves. I'm sure Chris is terribly upset with me about that.

At any rate, the heroes escaped into the desert where the rest of their adventures reveal more about the Key of Destiny and can't be mentioned here yet. I'll let you know just as soon as the book hits the shelves...

Cheers,
Cam

Nope. It's enormous, and my group only meets twice a month for 3-4 hours.

It's why I hand out so many experience points.
