#2zombiegleemaxSep 06, 2003 9:04:32 | I think it is a nice idea. I'm currently running a 5th age campaign myself and since my knowledge on DL is somewhat limited to 4th age, it does present a problem, but I'd love to show you what I've got if you want. But I like your idea very much. It doesn't always have to be dragons, gods and evil Knights of Thakisis. I'm planning to run my next DL campaign in the Nightlund area during the plague of the undead. But I'm waiting for my DLCS to arive this weekend before I plan that one out further. |
#3zombiegleemaxSep 06, 2003 11:19:41 | I agree, I wanted something other than draconians, dragons, or evil knights running around as the main problem. Any suggestions of how the gods would react to this unknown force raiding their world? I'm leaving it with the idea that the gods cannot touch the Etherguants home since they do not know where it is and it's out of their sphere of influence. They can only help within the world of krynn. But in the world of krynn, would the gods sit back and let the people of krynn fight this one out or would they step in with help? |
#4zombiegleemaxSep 06, 2003 11:56:17 | Well, first, what age is this set in? If its in the Age of Despair, alright! You've got yourself a game. If its in the 5th Age its a bit harder. Where did this Wizard get the power from so quickly. The gods of magic JUST cam eback. Although I could imagine that he regained his old powers and was particularly old. But then he wouldn't fear the WoHS because they're so weak currently they can't be policing anything. Now, the gods. The gods would probably take a very active role in this conflict. These alien invaders are not from Krynn and as such are not being protected by other gods. I think that someone should have given them help getting to this plane, Hiddukel perhaps, and that god is making it difficult for the others to interfere. Mishkala and Kiri-Jolith will try to find "Chosens" and scramble their fighters. Sargas may try to create a minotaur army to ace the new threat but only if the minos are feeling some of the attacks. Eitherway the gods of evil are plotting and scheming to use this to their advantage somehow. |
#5zombiegleemaxSep 06, 2003 12:02:15 | I'm a little behind on DL settings. Age of Despair is that prior to the Irda breaking the Grey Gem? Otherwise I was planning on using the Age of Mortals, but pushed into the future abit when the Wizards of High Sorcery have gotten back their powers and such. Not sure about a god helping the Etherguants through since their own clerics would be under attack as well, but I can see the evil gods looking to take advantage of the situation. |

#7zombiegleemaxSep 07, 2003 0:48:31 | What are your opinions of playing in the Age of Mortals but with the timeline pushed ahead so that the WoHS are back in action? |
#8zombiegleemaxSep 08, 2003 15:46:04 | Here's a thought, tell me what you think. Aeroth, a sorceror, was trying to channel a vast amount of raw magic, from krynn itself, for his spell. The amount of power was too great for him to channel, it overloaded his brain causing him to collaspe (suffering from ameisia). However the channeling of power weakened the planar barrier causing a small rift. Aeroth not knowing who he is or where he has done wanders around, leaving a few valuable clues to help the PCs find him. I think the Etheralgaunts call themselves the Ken-zai so I'll stick with that since I'm not putting them in the etheral plane. The main idea is that the gods of krynn first tried creating a world full of life but with little direct influence but they were unsatisfied with the resulting Ken-zai, mainly because of their genocidic tendicies. The Gods left the Ken-zai and sealed plane shut to prevent any damage to their new world. The Ken-zai became furious with their abandonment, their society ripped all aspects of divine life from their world and filled it with technology. (They have special weapons in the Fiend Folio like the Etherblade and Doubt Bomb, NO fancy tech, just those two). With the recent rift they've started sending in scouts to inspect this "new world". They start off fairly as harmless scouting missions until they discover that "their" gods are here. They start attacking places and people of faith. They strike at no particular gods, but rather all clerics and churches/temples. They're determined to cause as much pain to their gods as possible, and the easiest way is to destroy their newest children. A few things I've been considering. Ethergaunts normally have innate wizard abilities. Like the Red Etherguant can caste spells as if a 9th level wizard. But I was thinking that since they had no gods to pull from and that they focused on technology perhaps they developed psionics inplace of magic. But since Psionics are weaker when compared to magic in most cases I'll have to adjust a few things, maybe give the Ethergaunts a special ability of nondection to help hide themselves from their previous gods. What do you guys think now? I'm going to set this in the Age of Mortals. |
