#1arianna_greenleafSep 06, 2003 17:41:01 | AoM p.160-164 details how Laurana bit the dust, but ends saying that her body and spirit may be in the dark waters of the Lake of Death. It seems like a perfect central plot point for PCs to undertake. Deal with the goblin nation to the west, the humans & minotaur's in the region, any vengeful elves still brave enough to be in the area, and deal with the horrors of the lake... to find the "bound spirit" (template in AoM) of Laurana, and set her free. Seems like something that could be as involved as the massive Spider Queen FR adventure, which takes PCs through many levels. Perhaps a group of elves (who enlist the PCs) are trying to gain favor with Mishakal or Branchala, or they believe doing this task will become some kind of "turn the tide" of current events in their favor (maybe reclaim & start rebuilding their lands)? Maybe there is a lost artifact on her body to counter the growing threat of "ogre titans" (bathing in elf blood is pretty colorful, if not nasty, I might add)? I'm sure the Lioness would be up for it, given her desires. Any thoughts on major plot points and/or neat side-plots/adventures along the route? |
#2talinthasSep 06, 2003 17:50:29 | this is a great idea =) Don't forget all those happy things beryl must have left in the forest, plus the small enclaves of draconians, and the new mass of goblins around. in my campaign, i also had a barbaric tribe of gnomes led by a renegade tinker/necromancer. He rode a feral giant space hamster, and wanted to animate the dead and create frankenstein style tech golems =) |
#3zombiegleemaxSep 06, 2003 17:59:59 | Originally posted by Arianna Greenleaf I don't want to burst your bubble, cause I like the campaign idea....but it relies on a few changes....I just wanted to clarify what the text says for you.... In the last two paragraphs of Laurana's write up it states that her body rests below the waters of the Nalis Aren......and it goes on to say "many believe that the 'spirit of her sacrifice' is the only good that exists amidst the evil of that place." This refers to the ideal she embodied in her sacrifice...not her actual spirit. And the final paragraph solidifies it......."Laurana herself has moved on, her soul joining with her husband and the other companions, as they proceed to the next stage of life's journey." Prett much states that her spirit has flown the coop, eh? But if you want her spirit to remain in the world for your campaign idea, by all means change it......it's your game.....and it's too bad I don't know ya....I'd like to play in that game. |
#4arianna_greenleafSep 06, 2003 18:39:56 | Bubble is only partially burst (grin)... after all, her BODY is there, if not her spirit. And the spirit thing could be changed, if the "soul joining her husband" was actually rumor instead of fact. That might be a worthy minor change to justify the cool adventure idea. Do you think its too much? |
#5zombiegleemaxSep 06, 2003 18:43:08 | No....it is an awesome idea.....remember, it's your DL.....do what you want with it.....that seems to be the new DL slogan. While I prefer nearly to the letter canon DL, your idea strikes me as a game I'd like to be a part of. |
#6zombiegleemaxSep 07, 2003 11:45:18 | I think that we need to keep the Heroes of the Lance where they are, dead. We need to make room for new heroes to emerge in the war-torn land of Ansalon. Don't get me wrong, I love the Innfellows, but they did what they had to do, like true heores, and a new generation must now rise up to the challenges of Krynn. |

After the heroes release the spirit of Lauranna they discover (or not) that the spirit has been corrupted by something done by Beryl before dying and is now totally evil. |

#9zombiegleemaxSep 07, 2003 14:05:22 | Originally posted by Amaron Blackthorn And those heroes you mention might be the very same characters who free the last of the Heroes of the Lance from her earthly prison...:D I like the campaign idea! It has given me some ideas of my own |
#10zombiegleemaxSep 07, 2003 16:44:48 | I can imagine Laurana becoming something like the Lady of the Lake before she moves on to join her husband in the afterlife. Presenting the Dragonlance she wielded in her finale battle to a worthy successor. |
#11carteegSep 08, 2003 8:29:57 | How's this for an added suggestion? The reason her soul hasn't departed is because in her heart she hasn't decided who's spirit she'd want to spend eternity with: Tanis or Medan. And so until then, her spirit remains trapped under the decaying jaw bone of Beryl at the bottom of the lake. Or am I just being too mean? |
#12zombiegleemaxSep 08, 2003 9:49:19 | I LOVE this idea! I think the idea of her staying in her beloved city could be written to make a teamster cry like a baby. I also like the idea of a lady in the Lake cause she not only has the Dragon lance but wouldn't the Sword of the Lost star (I believe thats what its called) still be in the city as well? |
#13zombiegleemaxSep 08, 2003 12:55:32 | Originally posted by carteeg And just how does the character fit into her heartache? They gonna choose for her? I´m sorry but I just don´t see the epic adventure in deciding who she loves more...but hey that´s just my opinion :D Her spirit might be held prisoner by some evil force...maybe a powerful evil cleric seeing some use for her spirit... |
#14brimstoneSep 08, 2003 13:35:28 | Originally posted by talinthas Perhaps a Kender Nightstalker could come along, and she could be come his "Spiritual Companion" (or whatever name they were giving to the Nightstalker's ghost familiar). Wouldn't the first Kender Nightstalker ever recorded have been that kender from Stormblade? Or is that not quite the same thing? |
#15carteegSep 08, 2003 14:55:05 | Well, it sounded as if most of the adventure would be in finding the spirit. Whether or not the characters have the ability to truly help her would be something else. But simply discovering the reasons for her imprisonment would be the adventure. Eh, but then again, after going through all of the work, PCs who probably much prefer beating the crap out of some a***ole cleric and having the ability to save the princess. |
