Hello everyone, I am pleased to say that I just got the Age of Mortals book yesterday!!!!!

I am planning on running a campaign where my PCs help the Silvanesti elves reclaim their homeland. I am having the campaign begin with the PCs discovering the Sylvan Key (not using the adventure in the back of the DLCS) and then using this key as the symbol of hope for the lost elven people. The climax of the adventure will to be a ariel battle on dragon back over the battle for Silvanost.

The only problem is I am having a little trouble finding a starting point. I might have the PCs start in Hylo where they first help the afflicted Kender fight goblins, only to have them rescue Gilthanas who was captured. Gilthanas would then explain to the PCs that he has acquired the key and wants to go back to his people.

For this senario, I don't think the PCs will be motivated enough to travel far from their own homes, into hostile territory and risk their own lives for 'those elves.' It is too far from their immediate situation. Chances are, when they meet Gilthanas they would say, "oww, isn't that cute. You have a key. There is a boat. Go home!"

The campaign starts at 1st level, and characters have not been determined. One player does want to be a solamnic knight thought and another a WoHS.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Perhaps the Solamnic knight can be a token representative sent by the Order to help the elves since they came to the Solamnics defense

Arandur, that is not a bad idea. It would help explain why a mere Knight of the Crown is traveling on an epic quest when he should otherwise be guarding a door.

Remember, if he's level 1, he's probably not a Knight yet - He'll want to prove himself with some loyal act. Especially if, for some reason, there's complications with his acceptance.

As for the others... well, hard to suggest stuff when you don't know 'em. Clearly being elven would be handy for any of 'em. If any are Good alignment, they might feel obligated to help, especially if you put Gilthanas in a position where he really needs some bodyguards. A Wizard might be interested in magical-ness along the way. Kender will tag along for the ride, if they've hit Wanderlust. A Cleric maybe received a vision from their God to help out - Chosen for an epic quest and all that. If all else fails, Gilthanas could always offer to pay them (once they get back to his people, ofcourse).

Just some ideas. I like the campaign idea, by the way. Let me know how it goes.

Actually I came up with a great idea to keep the PCs interested. I started the campaign with them being washed ashore with only the memory of the lines:

Its haunting voice once echoed,
amongst the evergreen woods.
Now a lost and forgottern memory,
intended for a darker future.

During each adventure they will discover the other lines of the song, and therefore the next stage of the campaign.
