#1zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2003 10:34:05 | allright, i give up. i keep hearing about dark sun, i read through the whole athas page, and i did numerous searches on google. but for the life of me, i cant find a map of the world athas, or a decent description of what these 'city states' are. I hear about the dragon lords (or something like that) and i hear about border mountains (or something like that). I just can, though, find what they all are! could someone give me some pointers, or explain to me? |
#2zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2003 20:31:50 | For starters, check out the map made by Urrgos. It will at least give you a general overview of the known region of Athas. Phat Link Here Its an unfinished work meant to be clickable, but the only region detailed is to the extreme north. That will at least get you going. As for the city-states, there are several. The main 7 of the Tablelands (also known as the Tyr Region) are Tyr, Balic, Draj, Urik, Nibenay, Gulg, and Raam. These cities were all at one time in the very recent past (a few years ago in Campaign Time) ruled by Sorceror-Kings (two were ruled by Sorceror-Queens). These were immortal beings of tremendous power that ruled through tyranny, fear, oppression, and other fun happy means. There are also two 'Lost City-States' to the north of the Tablelands, called Kurn and Eldaarich, both of which have been cut off from the Tablelands for one reason or another. The final actual city-state is the of Guistinal, which lies beneath the ruins of the original city of the same name. As for detailed descriptions, nab up the following sourcebooks from SVGames (5 bucks each) The Dark Sun Campaign Setting, Ivory Triangle, City By The Silt Sea, and The City State of Tyr. More info than you'll need to start a good DS campaign for 20 dollars. Also, Athas.org has recently released City-State of Draj which you can download for free from their website. That will get you detailes on (counts on fingers) 5 of the City States. As for Dragons, Athas was home to but a single dragon, simply called The Dragon. But don't let that fool you, he was a doozie. Mad as heck and capable of ravaging the wastelands at a whim. Later in the campaign timeline he is killed, but thats right about when we learn that the Sorceror-Kings are really humans and not god-like beings, who are in the century long process of transforming themselves into dragons as well. Even worse, player characters are given the ability to transform into Dragons as well (SVGames book called Dragon Kings, another 5 bucks). Well, I realize I haven't explained diddly about Athas, but alas, that's me. The thng is, Dark Sun was was never increadibly popular, so the amount of information on the web is quite small, most of it from fan sites that have been abandoned years ago. Start with Athas.org. Nab up the recent released works like the 3.0 rules, City State of Draj (cool supplement), Terrors of the Deadlands (more undead than you can shake a stick at), Whispers of the Storm, and Tyrian Conspiracy (two nifty adventures). The links page they have should get you a little further along with a few other resources. |

#4zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2003 21:47:37 | thanks a lot. that was pretty much all i needed. I will check out those sights. thnx again. |
#5zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2003 3:08:58 | Urrgos has said that he simply doesn't have the time to finish it. Not sure if that means its put on hold or abandon. Drop him a line (digitalwanderer.net and look for cantact address) and see if he's got any plans to finish it up or hand it off to someone else. |
