#1zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2003 18:23:01 | Ok, I looked at the FAQ, and I skimmed the boards, but I didn't see my question answered. Direct me to a thread if you can. My question is regarding ECL. I get this phrase a lot: Level Adjustment: +2. Creature X has an effective character level of 4 + class level. The confusing thing is, the level adjustment number is not consistant with the ECL number. Is one for NPC and one for PC? Is this a 3.5 thing? It just doesn't make sense to me, and the book seems inconsistant. |
#2zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2003 18:31:00 | ECL is a combination of the creature's Hit Dice + Level Adjustment. For instance, ogres are a 4 hit die creature, with a level adjustment of +2. That means for game purposes it's considered to be a level 6 character, plus class levels. that help? |

#5zombiegleemaxSep 15, 2003 3:18:30 | Also remember tbat Character Level (class levels plus hit dice) is what determines feats, stat increases, and so on. Effective Character Level (Character Level + Level Adjustment) determines XP for next level, starting equipment* and so on. *In other words, no ogre would ever go into the world of adventure with less than 9 000 gold pieces of equipment. This means that a) ogres live in areas with enormous gold mines, or b) that this is the *real* reason that ogre adventurers are so rare. |
