#1rosishaSep 13, 2003 19:02:00 | Ok i just got the book "Age of Mortals", which, according to Amazon, was suppoooosed to be DLCS. Go figure. nice descriptions of the lands and nations btw, very impressive. One or two things about the climate map: 1) the artic region around Southern Er. would push the trans/mixed region up a little higher to the north then it is right now, but this is easily explained away because of magic 2) Desert goes right over where the old Kenderhome was, but wasn't that area supposed to be full of trees before Malstryx? and now that she is gone won't it go back to the way it was? Anyway, my question! Keep in mind I do not have DLCS yet. Could a Draconian fighter/mystic (i have five levels to play with so i'm thinking fighter 2 mystic 3, btw, which would be a better combo for my character to use anyway?) that is going to be LG in alingment (i know its rare, but nothing is really impossible) become a Knight of Solamnia? Is there a race restriction on this? Here is the storyline for my character: Tel'rez (Male Baaz Draconian Fighter 2 Mystic 3) Tel'rez is a young Draconian, he was born shortly after the Summer of Chaos. Living in Teyr, he grew up and joined the army, really for no other reason then it seemed the appropriate thing to do at the time. For a few short years after the War of Souls, he spent an active, if uninspired term of service. He did care deeply about the Draconian Homeland, but he just never got excited about smashing Solamnic Knights, or eating elves, as some of the Old Timers did. Finally he joined a division of Scouts, hoping that the solitude would give him some guidance in his life. Sent out on a solitary patrol he engaged some ragtag goblins and was seriously injured. He was brought back from the brink of death by a Citadel Mystic, who, as he healed Tel'rez, also found a spark of the good in Tel'rez. How what happened next is beyond Tel'rez's knowledge or his new friend's knowledge, but somehow the curing spells given by Tonnil were able to awaken a spark of the Dragon inside of Tel'rez, and also his own heart power reacted to the Tonnil's. Knowing that he was wasting his life as a scout, he resigned his commsion and joined the Mystic to learn his ways. After some time he has decided that his true direction is a protecter of all civilized people, all that is good, all that is about little Draconian and Human children running together in the streets. He hopes to travel to the lands of Solamnia and become a Solamnic Knight, to return to his homeland and work on bridging the gaps between the races, to show the world that Draconians can be just as kind, generous, and care about children as much as any other species. He knows he might not survive his trip to Solamnia, but Tonnil and he will try, and hopefully succeed. Rosisha |
#2zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2003 19:26:36 | Don't forget your ecl of +3 on a Baaz drac. 2 racial hit die +1 ecl. And as for the KoS no they do not have any race restrictions =) |
#3baron_the_curseSep 13, 2003 19:29:57 | I don't think he could have been born shortly after the Summer of Chaos. The draconian females didn't come to age until much later. Unless you're following your own storyline. |
#4rosishaSep 13, 2003 23:08:57 | That is actually a very good point on both counts. I will have to revise the character. Maybe move him up a few years. That should work though cause the game is supposed to take place and I qoute "A few years after the War of Souls" so I can adjust that to be any number of years necessary. Thats the fun part about picking the time! ECL of +3 is a tad annoying... cause that would mean Ftr 1 / Mst 1 to make the story work... or I could just go with Mst 2, and say that he spent most of his formidable years in the military or something, hence why some mear goblins could beat him up. I'll work on the story. The main idea here is a Draconian Knight of Solamnia, which I thought would make for a very interesting RP situation (and takes me away from my classic Red Robed Wizard that is what I normally play). #5zombiegleemaxSep 13, 2003 23:28:28 | I like the thought of a noble draconian... That picture of Slith in AoM(?) was awesome! I think as a race they have great potential. Your character sounds really cool. Oh, and Roshisha, the DLCS says that even though Malystryx is dead, her desolation is not receding at all... |
#6GranakrsSep 14, 2003 1:03:08 | Heh. good to see more players who have draconian characters. That's a good background you have. Out of curiousity, Do you have a background on Tel'Rez's parents? That might be a good think to know, since the Girls were a rare breed. Just think, any of the newborns would be sons and daughters of the Girls from Drac Measures. |
#7rosishaSep 14, 2003 9:15:39 | I haven't read Drac Measures, though I do have the Doom Brigade. That and the short story from The Dragons of Krynn were what introduced me to Kang and Slith. They are cool, and I could really imagine their offspring being regular people: some good, some bad, some neutral. So thats why i came up with the idea, the challange being that Knights of Solamnia probably look at Draconians as "evil by nature" and not possessing free will, which they do possess. So, my character has to prove his inherent goodness (he likes kids). The mystic should help (from the War of Souls I am under the impression that the Knights respect the Mystics, do they????), but many are clerics, and he will pledge himself to any quest to prove his goodness. The other inspiration for my character is Kaz the Minotaur, one of the so called "evil by nature" races according to classic gaming products, and the opinion of the populace (of course their philosophy of ruling over everyone brutally would lend one to that conclusion...). Kaz became an honorary Knight, and i'm hoping my character can become a full Knight of the Crown (he won't be able to progress higher becuase he is not from a noble Solamnic family, though his children would be able to. House rule). Hopefully DLCS will come in soon! I'll post his stats as soon as I get DLCS! Rosisha |
#8zombiegleemaxSep 14, 2003 10:28:48 | the knights are ok with mystics, but as the gods have returned, they believe that the mystics should go back to worshiping the gods and becoming clerics and such. no need to depend on yourself when you got mightier beings to guide you, ya know? |
#9zombiegleemaxSep 15, 2003 3:11:47 | I find it difficult to visualise the knights accepting a draconian. Remember, a lot of knights will speak of Derek Crownguard and how he was slaughtered by the reptiles, how the draconians are the creations of the Dark Queen, and how blood will tell, and so on. Remember that the Knights are closely allied with the good dragons. Dracos are the product of a metallo-dragon genocide. Its your DM's decision, of course, but I wouldn't allow it. As far as I remember, the Knights are even reluctant to allow half-elven knights. They are humano-centric to a fault. |
#10zombiegleemaxSep 15, 2003 8:18:05 | exceptions are always rampant in dragonlance though. Heck, the solamnics HATE minotaurs, and they offered Knighthood to Kaz. He just took friendship instead. |
#11kipper_snifferdoo_02Sep 15, 2003 8:51:34 | Originally posted by Rosisha When an overlord dies their territory "begins" to revert back to the original landscape, but it could take decades (or longer) before the land fully heals itself. In the case of Malystryx however, this has not been true. The Desolation has not begun reverting back like the southern reaches of Qualinesti have (for example). Some people think that it may be because Malystryx made her lair in "the Ruins" of Goodlund/Losarcum and perhaps the additional magic in that area increased the potency of her change... but no one knows for sure. In any case I doubt that the mountains she raised will sink back into the ground. At the best I think if it reverts back there will be forests surrounded by mountains. Come to think of it, if the elves would just get some seeds out and start planting... (an get rid of all of the lesser dragons and evil minions of the Desolation) they could have a nice new forest home in 100 years from now. ;) |
#12rosishaSep 15, 2003 10:32:32 | Asta Kask: My character might remind them of being generous and it might be possible to use the Oath and the Measure against them (i.e. demand to be allowed to take a quest to join up. Besides, a LG mystic voaching for him should help his chances, and their own clerics could cast Detect Evil on him with out a problem). As to Derek Crownguard, he wasn't to popular among the survivors, so it shoudl work. Besides, Humans fought with the Dragonarmies, and they still accept humans into the ranks Kipper: You know, the plantings in the Desolation would be a good idea. Maybe that could be my characters quest for acceptence into the World! Rosisha |
#13zombiegleemaxSep 15, 2003 14:44:30 | Originally posted by Rosisha According to the DLCS (p. 55) the KoS have only just (since the WotL) accepted half-elves into the Knighthood. Other races have been titles but haven´t been allowed as full members of the organization. I wouldn´t allow draco characters in my campaign to become KoS. But hey that´s just my opinion :D |
#14rosishaSep 15, 2003 16:58:13 | Hey, I say its all about the RPing!!!! What would be cooler then struggling against racism, history, and adversity to rise up and attain a goal that he should not have been able to attain. I mean, what you have here is inner demons, tests of courage, and final rewards. You also have the makings of a tragic hero: perhaps his goal is attained when he sacrifices his life in a hopeless last stand against the forces of evil, and his death rattle, and encasing in stone, happens just as the Knights arrive, and they award him knighthood posthumously. Technically speaking, his entire quest could be done without a single battle or fight, an entire RP adventure. I guess you could use the Civil Rights movement as an example. And he does have one thing going for him: Kang has helped the forces of light twice according to Age of Mortals, once I can't remember, something about siding with the forces of light at some battle or another, and the other time when the draconians marched down towards the Knights of Takhisis and proceeded to chop them into confetti. #15alakarSep 15, 2003 19:33:01 | this sounds like a game we are playing. In a party of six, two of us are playing dracs. Our sivak is trying to become a knight, and my aurak is trying to become a wizard of high sorcery. We are playing the stroy of our dracs as being starnded after the chaos war. And have hid out during the war of souls. And know with gods and magic back, we are trying to make the world a better place again. So, keep on draconian knight. |
#16zombiegleemaxSep 16, 2003 10:50:58 | The fact that Goodlund is not reverting back to what it once was is due to several reasons, all of which are in theory: 1) The magic inherent in Malystryx's chosen lair helped her to maintain the condition of the desolation in the absence of her dragon totem (remember that is was stolen by the Dark Queen in the war of souls). Unfortunately, this is a continual effect that doesn't depend on the dragon overlord's survival to continue functioning. Thus, whatever artifact is causing this must be destroyed before the Desolation becomes good ol' Goodlund again. 2) Goodlund's health is directly connected to the Kender that once lived there and since they suffered emotional scars, the kender land also suffered these scars. Because not many non-afflicted kender reside in Goodlund, it perpetuates the desolation's existence. In this case, the only way to restore Goodlund is to move non-afflicted kender back into the territory. Well, those are the two theories I'm aware of. Hope that helps. |
