#1slivvy_gaidinSep 14, 2003 7:17:18 | I only have the 3ed Ravenloft Campaign Setting and Denizens of Darkness, and have never looked back through any earlier things. So, I was reading the adventure 'Feast of Goblyns' and see that one of the neighboring domains to Kartakass is Bluespur. They say it has a river going through it, and trees. Now I go back to my 3rd edition book and see that Bluetspur is an island in the mists, with a blasted rocky landscape and a deafening subteranean humming. My question, again, is what ever happened to this Domain of Bluetspur. Oh, and as a side question (seeing as I was reading the adventure), how do you pronounce 'Goblyn'? Is it the same pronounciation as for the normal 'Goblin'? |
#2Ryltar_SwordsongSep 14, 2003 16:56:06 | The domains got rearranged during the Grand Conjunction. Most were left in their previous positions, but Bluetspur was one of those that shifted position when the Conjunction ended. |
#3slivvy_gaidinSep 14, 2003 21:16:33 | Yeah, but it got totally munted in the process, or so it seems. Did it always have the whole subterranean humming thing? |
#4Ryltar_SwordsongSep 14, 2003 21:51:55 | The humming is probably psychic waves sent out by the illithid god-brain that manifests as humming. The vegetation is gone due to the fact that there is no sunlight in Bluetspur. |
#5zombiegleemaxSep 15, 2003 7:51:26 | If you're really interested in learning more about Bluetspur, might I suggest a hunt for "Thoughts Of Darkness" (an old 2E Ravenloft module). Don't let the negative hype fool you though, cuz alot of cats tried to diss that adventure. But bottom-line: if you got high-powered PCs and you wanna wreak havoc on them with creatures and situations they probably couldn't even fathom, Thoughts of Darkness is right for you. Plus it was this module that introduced Madness Checks to Ravenloft, a rule that has remained to this day. In the future, I am sure you can read more about Bluetspur from an upcoming Gazetteer (keep your eyes glued to the shelves of your local hobby shop). peace MSD |
#6darksoldierSep 21, 2003 3:21:50 | The Gazetteers are covering the Core first, so you might be out of luck until around 2006/07. |
#7slivvy_gaidinSep 21, 2003 20:43:20 | Several years to wait. Thats OK- I wasn't planning on playing in Bluetspur any time soon. I was just curious. Maybe I'll just have to make up my own Bluetspur as I get there. That is what this games about, ain't it? |
#8zombiegleemaxSep 26, 2003 1:18:44 | Bluetspur suffered from "not being gothic enough". Most of the weirder domains (places like Timor with alien non-human domanant *things*) were sifted outside the core after the GC. |

(Why the heck would anybody stay there and starve if there's another domain right next door with FOOD in it...?) If a darklord had to keep the borders shut all the time, just to prevent massive defections, it made sense to make the place an island instead. |

#13The_JesterNov 01, 2003 13:06:05 | One of the four Island-ed Domains like the aforementioned G'henna, the Nightmare Lands and Markovia. Arak was pretty much erased/retconned. As for the Goblyns, they're pronounced the same but much more vicious and deadly little buggers. Maybe add a tad of accent whenever you're talking about them. Gob-leen or something. |
#14zombiegleemaxNov 12, 2003 14:40:53 | Nobody really answered his question. Slivvy, if you have the 3rd Edition campaign setting, then check out page 166 for Bluetspur. Jeff Davis www.jeffreyadavis.tk |
