#1zombiegleemaxSep 15, 2003 2:31:22 | I am starting a new DL Campaign. My Players are: A Half-Elven Wizard A Kagonesti Rogue A Human Fighter A human Druid And someone else... I'm trying to think of something that'll get them motivated and get them moving across the continent because continental travel is fun and the more they travel the more stuff they can do on the way! Here's the plan I currently have in my mind. First, these "heroes" dwell in the region of Kern in a Port town called Dragon's Point. ((There is no freaking info on Kern or Dragon's Point in either of the books, so if anyone has any start sharin')) one day a small boat washes into town carrying a baby. The baby has that whole "old eyes" thing going and is actually the great Sage Astinus, reborn. The baby comes along with an old wizened gnome who appears completely lost. The gnome keeps asking about Palanthas, and how to get to Palanthas, and all of that stuff. Well the gnome ends up staying at the tavern frequented by the party and in the night he vanishes. The party finds a note with instructions to take the child to Palanthas and a second, sealed note, to give to the head of the Order of Aesthetics. Knowing my party they may need a bit more convincing not to just pass off the baby to the next farmer going that way ((there aren't any, of course)) so I'd have to stage a fight with some creatures. What kind of creatures would resist the reintroduction of Astinus into the world? I really don't know. Alright, so now the party has to go to Palanthas and as I see it they have three options. Take a ship: This option is a bad idea. They'd have to sail like freaking around the continent and contend with all sorts of aquatic dangers. Walk straight as the crow flies: This path takes them through many perilous mountain ranges, possibly the dread land of Nereka, and a bunch of other cool places. The third way is to go a more round about way through the lands of nordmaar and Nightlund. It avoids the mountains but is frought with its own perils. I'd like some idea of what kinds of stuff my party could encounter on this epic trip. I'd like everything to be leading up to something big but I'm having toruble coming up with what exactly. Things that need to be accomplished: - I'd like my Wizard to have a run-in with some WoHS's and some Sorcerers, preferably at different times. I'd like for him tosee what his options in the arcane fields are. He's very set on being a Renegade but he doesn't know what it'll be like being a Renegade mage. I've already got a plan for a group of Sorcerers to be persecuting Wizards, fearful that the resurgence of the WoHS will try to bind their innate magical talents. - My Fighter wants to become a Dragon rider. Preferrabley blue because they're so loyal. - I'd like to try and teach my elves SOMETHING about race loyalty but that may be difficult. So this is where I need you guys to help me. - What do you know about Dragon's Point, Kern? - What kind of ideas for adventures do you have that are on the way of their quest. I'd like these adventures to be important but not too distracting. I don't want them ending up enlisting in an army when they still have to get this baby where it needs to be. Nights, Weeks, Maybe even months of IC time can be spent, but the main objective of the baby has to at least somewhat stay near the front. Ideas for each of the three paths would be very very helpful. -Help me accomplish my goals! |

#3baron_the_curseSep 15, 2003 19:31:16 | Dragon’s Point is an abandoned ogre settlement that the Minotaurs of Mithas have recently taken over. It actually lies several dozen miles inland. The 2nd Edition Dragonlance adventure Rise of the Titans has detail information on the town. I really like your idea but this is all the time I can spare for an answer right now. Good luck. |
#4zombiegleemaxSep 15, 2003 19:34:42 | Ah. Damn. See, this is what happens when I have absolutely no geographical info. Perhaps I'll change the location of the town then. One of the Blood Sea Isles, perhaps? Anyone got a good idea? I jsut read in AoM where it says that kern is an Ogre place, but the DLCS has it marked down as independent. Ra*Afrasa*Sasafarasin! |
#5kipper_snifferdoo_02Sep 15, 2003 20:13:30 | Ok.. here are some ideas... 1. Start them in Flotsam. It's describe din both the DLCS and the Age of Mortals. 2. Have them go thru Khur that is also highy detailed and merchant Caravans travel between their and Flotsam. Dark Knights (who used to serve Malys) inhabit a fotress near that city. They can be the ones that chase them out of the city in the first place. Just get them in trouble. 3. I like the Sorcerer Idea. The Khurs don't really like Wizards in general, but in Delphon they do have "Seers" and in the Khur deserts there are all sorts of istarian ruins. You could do a dungeon crawl in there. Either related to the sorcerers Seers or not. Maybe the baby gets kidnapped and taken their for an evil ritual or something. 4. If they continue to Sanction they will most likely encounter displaced elves. You could have a makeshift village that is in danger from ogre bandits. This should help with making your elves feel as though they are helping thier brethern out. And perhps make a love interest there that dies tragically... [insert romance here] 5. Sanction is being held by the Solamnic Knights. So perhaps this would be a good place for yout dragon rider to find a mount outside sanction. Maybe one of the dragons has a baby and the party has to rescue or protect it or find a magic item to heal its specific malady. Maybe the antidote is a special plant only found in Sable's realm. 6. From Sanction they can take a ship, so maybe give them a sea adventure before you destroy the ship with a black dragon from Sables territory. And land them in the evil goblin ifested lands of Lemish. Put a big baddie in their path from there. Perhaps the word has gotten out on who the baby is by this time and dragons or evil gods that don't want him back "Hiddukul" are out to kill him now. From there they can head north or west... there... I got you through half the continent. ;) |

#10zombiegleemaxSep 16, 2003 3:01:52 | Well, I've been reading through AoM some more and I started having an idea. What if instead of Astinus returning a different being was born to become the new Aesthetic. I'm thinking of an Astinus-like being but instead of the implications to the God Gilean, the new Chronicler is somehow tied to the god Zivilyn. What with the seeing in every world and all of the knowledge and wisdom Zivilyn would make a pretty good Aesthetic. It would also be a shift in the cold harsh manner of the Great Library. Zivilyn's Chronicles will be warmer, less logical and calculating. Is this a bad idea? If so why? What would be a good name for the new being? Garast? Mentusi? Borish'Malan? Hank?! |
#11baron_the_curseSep 16, 2003 3:55:32 | I like your original idea better. Keep it the way it is. The return of Astinus for a new generation! And you're doing it in a cool creative way, instead of just having the old Astinus appear before his bethren librarians bask in the light of his Glorious Return. That's just clitche. |
