It occured to me long ago that (so I've heard) Greyhawk has never quite given the our favorite reptillian friends, the dragons, enough treatment, credit, and quality. Thus I have taken it upon myself to write an article for Canonfire all about the dragons of the Flanaess. Now, what I'd like to know is, what GH sources would provide the most material for me. I'd also like to know just what exactly people would expect out of an article like this, example, a general overview of dragons etc. Or named dragons and thier histories? both? give me some feedback so i can get to work! |

The monster Manual aswell as the DMG and PHB are default Greyhawk. Dragon entries within are repleat with various attitudes of the beasties. The Greyhawk dragon should be of some concern for you. I would definately review the 2e Greyhawk Monstrous Manual Appendix entry on this species, and others. Other sources might include researching some of the information out of the old "Dragon Mountain" boxed set. Also consult the 1e D&D Monstrous Manual and the 3e Manual of the Planes or Deities and Demigods (whichever they appeared in) for some Ideas about Tiamat and Bahamut. Those are my Ideas off the top of my head. |

Of interest is an alu-demon who has replaced her own forearms with those of a topaz dragon, inadvertently granting her the ability to breathe underwater. Her half-sister, a half-dragon (topaz) / half-fiend (succubus), has recently reappeared in the area. |

#7zombiegleemaxSep 16, 2003 18:45:05 | The articles posted above are good. My only advice would be don't overdo it. Dragons are rare in Greyhawk, you don't want lose this feel. Slaying a dragon or gaining one as an ally should happen only once or twice in the career of a Greyhawk Character, not once per level like in the Realms. |

I haven't read all of Ivid but I get the impression that their rule over the core lands of the kingdom was pretty absolute, meaning they would've driven out any significant threats long ago and given the preponderance for fiends there, the fiends wouldn't want the dragons around either. But then, maybe an ancient dragon in the Adri and Grandwood would help explain why they never quite managed to dominate the forests. They would have to be allied with the elves there as well since it's noted that the elves were staunch foes of the Great Kingdom. Hmm... an alliance between a green dragon and elves... interesting... |

I believe you have that remark slightly backwards, in the realms you can encounter a dragon at every level with ease, the only problem is it slays you. Even in the 2e version of the realms you had really nasty official stated dragons, I once made the mistake of taking on an incredible old shriveld up puny barely alive great wyrm blue dragon leading a party of 6 mega equipped 15th level characters, the dragon was apparently an archmage and high priest of a draconic god of magic, and his lair was really a temple, he cast time stop, we died. P.S. I love the Greyhawk setting, but the realms has some awesome ass-kickin dragons, and other creatures, regardless of what some greyhawk harpers think, the realms is a deadly place to adventure in. "If you ever adventure there, beware of little elven girls, they might have the mind and skills of a 3500 year old ultra-devious 36th level epic necromancer" |
