Sep 17, 2003 11:50:27 Does anyone else have the problem that I have with one of my players? He insists that the world is over powered because almost every person in the world has a dragon and is a dragon rider. Of course, I have explained that there are not that many people actually have dragons, and even fewer are dragon riders. I have tried time and time again to tell him that the world is not over run with dragons, and that would be why he does not see a skyway that is always filled with every color of the rainbow and every metalic dragon ever to exsist flying over head. How do you think I could possibly convince this person that what he belives to be DL is absolutley wrong.

Sep 17, 2003 12:06:21 I guess I just feel to timid about telling him in that way. Especially since it is so hard for me to get players in this day and age (Advertising in stores, on the Net, etc. But just not knowing anyone in the area does not help).

And i don't see why this thought is such a problem, or so disruptive. If he wants to be ignorant then let him be. No skin off your nose. Just don't let his little "ideas" affect your game.

Sep 17, 2003 12:44:29 No, in fact, in the time that they have been playing they have not even heard of a dragon rider, and there has been no trace of dragons on my Krynn since the War of Souls.

The deflating of a player's image of how fantasy worlds are can always be fun:

Example:
A bunch of high level PCs use their last teleport to escape out of a dungeon from another world and run into a random temple. They need healing fast before the 'big bad epic level lich' from the dungeon tracks their teleport, shows up, and smooshes them into muck.

Party Leader: Lvl 18 (6 hps out of 185 max) "Help! We need healing, quickly! We'll pay anything!"
A cleric runs over and cures only 13 hps. The cleric blinks. "Hrm.... for everyone else that usually cures them completely."
Party Leader: "What? No! Use your most powerful healing magic!"
Cleric: "That was my most powerful. 'CURE MODERATE WOUNDS!'"
Party Leader blinks: "You're not strong, are you?"
Cleric: "Actually I'm the most powerful healer on this world."
Party Leader: "Oh sh-"
Big Bad Lich: *POOF* "Hi guys."
Cleric: "Stand back! I'll take care of this undead filth." Turn attempt. "BEGONE!"
Big Bad Lich raises a single remaining eyebrow hair.
Party Leader: "Maybe we should take this opportunity to run...."
