#1B-naaSep 21, 2003 17:23:39 | Bare with me a moment here, its been a while since I've actually started a new thread. As we all probably know during the Fifth Age, the clergy of Paladine, lost their power. However, the church didn't disband and carried on doing their work without the guidence of Paladine. Crysania the once Chosen Prophit of Paladine, worked with the other Chosen Prophit's of good, during the Gods' absence. So the question I ask, is now that Paladine is mortal, will his church disband, or do you think that they're still going to carry on his work, in Paladine's memory, and what of Valthonis? If the church carries on the work of Paladine, how will this elf be treated. Valthonis undoubtably has many enemies, would his former clerics seek to aid him? What do you guys think? |
#2zombiegleemaxSep 21, 2003 17:32:40 | I didn't read the post, because I'm reading the War of Souls now. Saying 'Church of Paladine' SPOILERS, is nice, but you just gave a spoiler... To everyones knowledge, there is no Paladine, until you get into book 3, you can assume, but just the title is a Spoiler. I knew ahead of time, but figured some people might not.. so it would suck. |
#3B-naaSep 21, 2003 17:37:08 | Originally posted by Freaklegion But the Church did exist in the Fifth Age while the Gods were gone. despite the absence of the gods, the clergy continued to do their work. So the title of the thread really isn't a spoiler. |
#4nevineSep 21, 2003 17:51:50 | Well..he (Valthonis) does have the "Faithful", a group of former worshippers (I would assume) that follow him around to protect him and aid in the good he does. As for the church..I dunno, it's doubtful the Holy Order would recognize them anymore. |
#5zombiegleemaxJun 28, 2004 12:52:22 | Does Dragonhelm have any idea what happens to Lady Crysania and the clergy of Paladine that remained after Paladine became mortal? |
#6frostdawnJun 28, 2004 16:27:51 | Originally posted by Amaron Blackthorn I could be mistaken, but after the novel "Tears of the Night Sky" that took place after the Summer of Chaos, Crysania more or less gave up the ways of the cleric to live out her life with the white mage that turned into a Tiger (thanks to Dalamar)- I can't remember his name. She rebuked his love many times before because of her faith. She finally broke down, admitted her love for him, and IIRC, gave up the cleric ways. As for the rest of the clergy of Paladine, my guess would be that they still revere him, and would most likely keep the temples out of respect, but of course there wouldn't be any active clergy since they can't draw divine power from him anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if most of his protectors now are former clerics of his. Just my $.02. |

#8karui_kageJun 28, 2004 18:25:49 | It makes sense that the entire church would dispand, except for unofficial duties, such as carrying on his beliefs with their own ways. This is because Paladine, or Valthonis, strictly says that he does not want any worshippers, period. He has his following, but they only assist him in his tasks to help others, and do not worship him. Most likely the church of Paladine would either seek out other good deities to serve that had similar beliefs, so their clerical abilities could continue to help people, or just go about life with Paladine's teachings in their heart. |
#9quentingeorgeJun 29, 2004 2:02:37 | I imagine former clerics of Paladine will go to the churches of his consort and children, ie "warrior" types will go to Kiri-Jolith others will go for Mishakal. |
#10zombiegleemaxJun 29, 2004 10:04:38 | Maybe this question will be answered in the Holy Order of the Stars sourcebook when it is released. |
#11dragontoothJun 29, 2004 12:05:54 | I'm sure that some of the followers are former clerics of his, and I would assume that the Metallic dragons would also set up like a honor guard for him. Since after all he is their creator. Could you imagin attacking him, and half his followers turned into metallic dragons. LOL would be funny specially if it were your PC that attacked him(for the gamers). |
#12brimstoneJun 29, 2004 12:15:05 | Wouldn't worshiping Valthonis be tantamount to blasphemy and tick off the other gods? Worshiping a mortal as a god...there's gotta be a rule against that somewhere on the Disks of Mishakal. ;) |
#13zombiegleemaxJun 29, 2004 12:21:42 | One would think that the other gods of good and the metallic dragons would do what they could to protect Valathonis. |
