#1rosishaSep 21, 2003 23:41:48 | Ok played my first DL game under the new rules today, and at the last moment I changed my mind. I didn't like the idea of playing a fighter, so I went with Irlet, the Baaz Draconian Wizard, LN. He is a second level wizard. Here's a quick outline: Feats - 1st Lvl Character: Draconian Breath Weapon Draconian Feat: Spell Casting Prodigy Bonus Wizard Feat: Scribe Scroll School of Specialization: Transmutation (Necromancy, Enchantment opposed) Spells Known: Animate Rope Magic Weapon Reduce Person Enlarge Person Identify Mage Armor Obscurring Mist So we went on our first adventure. And can I just say I have fallen in love with the DL world all over again? Here is our adventure group: we have me, a 2nd level (ECL 5) Wizard (who wears red robes, though he isn't an official wizard of the red robes yet); we have a thinker gnome rogue (who is a member of the frozen liquids guild); and a Que-Yil Mystic (Water Domain). So our mission. We learn of a black robe wizard, known only as the wizard of ice. He has blasted a region with frigid air, and icy storms, etc etc. Bad person. He needs to be stopped!!! Not only that, but he killed another black robe and they have declared him a renegade. Of course, black robes are moving in on him, but the Red Robes know he has a lot of magical items. I've been instructed to capture them. The first leg of our journey takes us to Flotsam. We desiguise ourselves in old Dragonarmy armor and equipment. This lets us slip into the city without much incident. A few of the knights look at us scornfully, the gnome acts as our prisoner. We get in, get some lodgings and our inn is attacked by undead. See, we were followed by one of the black robe assassins. He decided to get funky on us, take out some of the competition before we could get to the guy. How he knew it was us, we couldn't figure out. So we killed the undead, and I blasted the black robe with my breath weapon, as our mystic friend smashed him in the back with a chair (it broke his concentration). Our gnomish friend scouted out the town and amanged to stay undetected. So after this we have to head to this tiny little town north of Flotsam where the evil ice wizard is. Unfortanitly we realize that we can't just walk directly in, because from some hills we see this malestorm over the area where we believe the town is. And as their is lots of snow, we think we are right. However, a number of these white creatures (ice elementals) are wandering around the outskirts of the storm, a bunch of them see us and come FLYING!!!!!!!!!! at us. Notice that I REALLY did not like the flying part, and am emphesizing that BAD DMs make their creatures able to out pace your party. So we run (duh! we were outnumbered!) and we make it to this old abandoned fortress. We run in through the collapsed front gates just as the Ice Elementals catch up to us. I blast one with my fiery breath (double damage!!!) and they fly back in total fear, cause they don't know i can only do that once a day. anyway we make it into the catacombs and shut this gate behind us. So now we are moving down stairs cause we know those things will come into the catacombs after us, and we find this super long tunnel behind a secret door in the basement. We go in and (ammazingly enough) it is heading due north east, right towards the town! So we get in, close the secret door, bar it with a staff (my Staff ) and move towards the town. We come up near the town well, frozen water and snow are beneath us, and my character is NOT liking this cold. Anyway, I use animate rope to bring the well rope down to use and make it secure, and we climb up. Its stormy, late at night and no one sees us. We get in and find an abandoned stable where we make camp. morning is dark, but we know exactly where the bad guy is cause his tower is litterely made out of ice (btw, I'm liking this less and less as my character is getting a -1 to Dex Str and Int because of the cold). So we sneak through the town at noon (warmest part of the day, and the storm abated, so we hoped the ice elementals wouldn't be out. It actually worked). We get to the tower, and we notice that it is surrounded by ice elementals. Large ones. We're a dead party. However, we have one advantage in that two of our Black Robed friends show up throwing fireballs (great spell fireball), and they engage in a fight. Hey, why look a story related gift horse in the mouth? we go in! We get to the top of the tower quickly and actually surprise the arrogant idiot. I blast him right off the bat with my flame breath, and am actually able to hurt him badly as we attack so we fight, i'm knocked down bad, cause of cold spells. My character actually slips into hibernation (DM ruled that all cold related effects and spells cause subdual damage in addition to regular damage, and you go into hybernation if you would go unconcious). So we kill him and all the Ice elementals go berserk as all these icicles on the walls shatter (they controlled the elementals). So we loot the place as it is melting around us, and I get all sorts of cool things!!! Biggest benefits for me? I have gotten three awesome things: Cloak of Winter - Basically lets you pass without trace on snow, endure cold without any penalties (really important for a cold blooded creature), and also DR 10 (Cold). Fog Horn - Acts like a fog horn, but fills the area with a huge cloud of fog. Frost Sword - A +1 Longsword with the Frost type on it. I also found this guys spell books, which is awesome. The spells I can use out of it and understand are the following: Spellbooks - i have the Ice Wizards spell books. Here are some of his spells: Lesser Cold Orb Icy Grasp (As shocking grasp) Chilled Air (As burning hands) Summon Para-Elemental (Ice Elemental) 1 - 9 Freeze (As Magic Missile, but causes a person to get really cold automatically). So thats what happened. sorry for the length! Rosisha |
#2iltharanosSep 21, 2003 23:53:21 | Sounds cool :D I like the fact that there's an Ice wizard in the desert climate of the Flotsam area. He certainly stands out! As for yours truly, I'm running the 2nd session of my Dragonlance campaign next weekend ... and I have the PCs right where I want them. Muhuhahahahaha. |
#3kalanthSep 22, 2003 8:35:03 | I like the sound of your character. I love the fact that there is someone out there that is not affraid of playing a PC with a level adjustment. In my campaign I have a Kapak Rogue/Fighter 1/1, he just got his second level last session and figured that he was doing so much actually combat that a level in fighter was appropriate. |
#4rosishaSep 23, 2003 10:25:27 | hehe, everyone else liked that I wanted a char with a level adjustment, as it made them more powerful. As to the Ice Wizard, it was REALLY cool. "You're marching along in the heat, when suddenly this icy cold breeze hits you." I mean, how dumb do you have to be to NOT realize this is your target? Anyway in a few game sessions I should be ready to take my test. which should be in a month or two, so I'll write that up when I take it! Rosisha |
