Is it really that necessary to prohibit bards from casting healing spells? Come on, that's one of the biggest assets of the bard. Even though they cast primal sorcery, they don't do it the way sorcerers do: no arcane spell failure in light armor, different spell list, and can't use Silent Spell. They can also cast healing spells, which is impossible for sorcerers.

Yes, it really is. Arcane magic doesn't provide healing in Dragonlance, no matter how it's presented. You could always tweak your bards to use mysticism and sorcery together, as a hybrid - this sort of thing was rumored to be possible in the 5th Age. Or, you could say all bards use mysticism, which would allow you to keep the healing spells, but that they are hampered by armor etc etc just as a sorcerer would be, because of the confining nature of armor. A bard's mysticism would then be focused through the emotional nature of her music, which is in keeping with how mysticism works and how bards have been presented. You wouldn't need to change anything else - essentially, a bard would be a mystic with musical talents instead of a domain.

Cheers,
Cam

It did at one point, Dragonlance Adventures, pg. 38, Timeheal .
Always thought that was a bizarre spell....

Yeah, that's kind of cheating. Makes your body go backwards in time to recover damage. That would play havoc with your digestion system, metabolism, endocrine system, your memory...

You can do it with mysticism like Cam said, but you could only do that during the 5th age, and you wouldn't be able to use any arcane spells I would presume. Other then that bards can't cast healing spells.

Why not just have them able to use both. They can use all the arcane spells listed, plus a few healing spells. They could be like proto-Mystic Theurges.

Or, as the SAGA materials put it, they would be Hybrid Mages.

Hybrid Mages were sorcerer/mystics who saw sorcery and mysticism as two sides to the same coin. To a degree, this is somewhat correct. So a bard could have that outlook with his magic, or be ignorant as to the nature of his magic.

Also, mysticism is not only available during the Age of Mortals, but could also be used in the early Age of Dreams.

I'll use the hybrid thing then. Thanks!
