#1zombiegleemaxSep 24, 2003 10:34:38 | Since there seems to be a popular habit amongst GH fans to diss other worlds, especially Forgotten Realms, I figured we may as well collate it all into one thread and direct all other people who would ***** about other settings to this thread to prevent the pollution of all other threads with peoples BS. Why I hate FR by DDK (aka Delglath) I hate FR because it's stinky and Ed Greenwood is ghey. R.A. Salvatore is an amateur and couldn't write himself off in a head on collision. The Avatar wars were a lame effort to explain the transition between rules systems and were ghey also. Egyptians suck. And what's with that Amazonian thing. Elminster is also ghey. |
#2zombiegleemaxSep 24, 2003 12:57:17 | :D Although I (mostly) agree, I at least have to stick up Egyptians. That's the only salvagable section of FR to me, but then again, I like cultural rip offs, blatant or not. And yes, Elminster is indeed lame. |

#4zombiegleemaxSep 24, 2003 14:25:54 | What you like or dislike is not my business, but you are NOT doing Greyhawk fans any favors with childish "ghey" slurs and such, even if you're only kidding. |
#5Gnarley_WoodsmanSep 24, 2003 15:37:29 | The Forgotten Realms.....Why I hate the, let me count the ways... :D 1) Overpowered High level Uber NPC's, that by definition of thier descriptions interfere with your PC's as they gain prowess and become dangerous. 2) The material is spoon fed to the new gamer. Like a Dick and Jane bok from Kindergarden the source material for this setting tells you how the setting runs, and who will dictate changes (see reason 1) 3) Popularity, simply put I don't like follwing the crowd. I Prefer to use my own judgement and imagination to make a setting come alive, not have to fight with the established Canon for room to run my game. (See reason 1 and 2) 4) Too much magic! Everywhere you go there seems to be a high population of magical creatures, forests with Robotech style mecha encounter, and shops where one can buy a +3 Bane of anything, flaming, icy defending doomgiving Staff/sword/bow/something on a discount rack in the back. I like things in moderation. The occaisional visit by Tenser to ask for your help because you aided him in the past is okay. He doesn't send you on to your doom and sweep in and take all the glory with a handfull of Mystra's chosen following on his heals. The Circle of Eight works behind the scenes to maintain a delicate balance, but you'll hardy know if they had a hand in the adventure, and even then if the were working for or against you. Just my opinions. I burned my FR stuff years ago. In a wonderful bonfire. The marshmellows turned out perfect BTW |

LoL Though I must agree about your assessment on Ed Greenwood (Not so much the ghey, as the lack of intelligable writings he's responsible for). Believe it or not I know FR fans that despise Greenwood. Salvatore well lets just say he got more then his fare share out of a character. How many swirling, twirling, lines do their have to be before someone dies. Lastly enough with the Hecate already! |

#9grodogSep 24, 2003 22:34:02 | I liked the old pre-1e box FR, from the days when it only existed in Dragon Magazine articles. Those were the good old days! |
