After all, Age of Mortals states that the mages of House Mystic embraced sorcery very early in the 5th Age, thanks to ancient writings in their archives describing the Primal Arts. And young Qualinesti were quick to learn the secrets of the new magic from the Academy and other sources. Otherwise, elven PCs who wish to play traditional fighter/mage types are going to end up with that ugly -20% hit to their XP. I suppose its a moot point since I plan to allow elven PCs at first level to choose between Sorcerer and Wizard as the favoured class, in my campaigns, but I'd still like to hear people's thoughts on the matter. |

Early on in the book it is stated that the Silvanesti have been extremely reluctant to accept the new forms of magic; later on in the section on Silvanost, it is explained how the mages of House Mystic quickly embraced and mastered primal sorcery, long before the likes of Palin and the Thorn Knights. Age of Mortals is a great product, but I get the impression that the different designers didn't compare notes as often as they should have. It's a bit like the rather puzzling statements that the elves have turned to Mishakal as their chief deity in the abscence of Paladine, while later text in both the DLCS and Mortals confirms that, as he has always been in the past, Astarin / Astra ( Branchalla ) remains the chief elven deity. Still, minor gripes really - I just sometimes wish that the editors of the sourcebooks would be just a little more rigorous in sifting out such contradictions. |
