#1zombiegleemaxOct 07, 2003 5:26:20 | How come Shemeska is refered to as "The King of Crosstrade", and is also refered to as a beautiful female? I'm very confused. |
#2zombiegleemaxOct 07, 2003 8:27:50 | I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you |
#3sildatorakOct 07, 2003 11:34:15 | She is a female arcanoloth. The male symbol in her description is a typo (or mistake by an editor who wasn't up to speed on the character). As for "King of the Crosstrade," you'll have to ask her that. |
#4factol_rhys_dupOct 07, 2003 14:13:42 | :D Ahem. I think I can lay this one to rest. To quote the excellent book Faces of Evil: the Fiends on pages 73-74, "...the yugoloths are hermaphroditic... ...a yugoloth's gender really depends on its current situation. What's more, it may change at a moment's notice, because the only real change taking place is one of perception... ...[A]nytime a yugoloth doesn't care to identify with a particular gender, it can still position itself as neuter... a body could say that the 'loths are neuter all the time--or that they're everything all the time. It's just a matter of how the fiends're viewed." I'll bet a certain Marauder'll have something to say in response to this, but I'll challenge even the King of the Crosstrade herself... hisself... itsself... even the King of the Crosstrade, itsself, to argue against an official book. |
#5incenjucarOct 07, 2003 15:06:01 | Physical sex and mental gender are seperate things IRL, I imagine it could be the same for the yugoloths. As for the king/queen thing, there's a great book series beginning with "Dealing with Dragons", that addresses the notion of calling a female a king. See, more or less, queens are secondary to kings thanks to sexist cultures. A queen's like a vice-president. Hence, in a non-sexist culture, either gender could be king or queen, depending on who's #1. |
#6Shemeska_the_MarauderOct 07, 2003 15:26:06 | (the male symbol in Faces of Sigil was a typo. Though one of the writers I believe made a joke about having officially put the first crossdressing Arcanaloth into D&D) (also with The Lady of Pain as ruler of Sigil, it might be maze tempting material to call yourself the most influencial person in Sigil and a Queen at the same time. After all, The Lady is sometimes referred to as The Bladed Queen. Making so obvious a parrallel to yourself and The Lady is simply too dangerous. Hence 'King' and not 'Queen'. Besides, King holds more power in many cutters minds, so why limit yourself to being Queen when you can be King.) *snort* "That garbage about hermaphroditic 'loths carries a worse smell about that writer's research than that of an ooze mephit does." "And don't expect me to be hiking up my gown anytime soon to show you. You're not worth the pleasure of the experience I should say." "And really, what does it matter anyways for a subrace of fiends such as Arcanaloths who can shapechange at will?" "The lesser Yugoloths however are indeed in many cases both genders, for what it matters. I doubt you'll find a Mezzoloth thats feeling amorous very often though. So again, it doesn't matter does it?" "I'm in a rather good mood at the moment otherwise, so you'll all get to keep your tongues and I can have Colcook put away the rope, the knives and the rings of regeneration." (And one thing to remember about 'Faces of Evil' is that all the entries are written in character, and liable to IC bias and disinformation. So the material may be true, or slanted, or simply wrong. And besides... the in character editor admits that one of the writers of the 'loth section was a planted agent, but he doesn't know just which one...) |
#7Shemeska_the_MarauderOct 07, 2003 15:29:12 | "And as far as challanging me oh spooky and mystical Factol Rhys... go take your 'I can listen to the planes' mumbo jumbo elsewhere..." *hisses silently* "I'm so sppooooooky and mysticaaaallllll.... oooooooh...." |
#8sildatorakOct 07, 2003 17:03:35 | You know what is scarier than an amorous Mezzoloth? A Piscoloth that is all hot and bothered. Eeewwwww! |
#9incenjucarOct 07, 2003 17:34:38 | Unless, of course, you -really- like sushi... |
#10incenjucarOct 07, 2003 17:46:21 | Originally posted by Shemeska the Marauder Hrmn.... that makes me wonder.. would the public display of an art piece of thee, lady 'loth, in all your glory, be considered an evil, or a good thing... ..Certainly, it would bring wonder to those that saw it, but yearning too, and broken homes as husbands become admirers... hmnn... |
#11lord_of_the_ninth_02Oct 07, 2003 17:50:40 | Odd that gender seems so fuzzy with lesser fiends, but all the Arch-fiends are very well defined... |
#12factol_rhys_dupOct 07, 2003 18:15:44 | Didn't mean to rile up our favorite yugoloth, there. I'm sure two of Sigil's finest women (I'll give you the benefit of the doubt just kidding) can get over this little squabble. By the way, In the Cage calls her "Shemeshka the Marauder". Anyone care to clear this dark up? |
#13Shemeska_the_MarauderOct 07, 2003 20:14:35 | *smiles* "How observant to notice my dear Rhys. Lets just say I decided to change the spelling on a whim. It's so fun correcting those who say it wrong now. I get to talk down to them, and watch them get scared because they think they've offended me by saying my name improperly. I get some perverse levels of pleasure from it all I'll admit." |
#14sildatorakOct 07, 2003 20:58:36 | Plus you get to make people doubt their own experience. I know that when I was going to reply to something you said the first time I thought "you know I thought it was Shemeshka." I bet you also get some sort of perverse pleasure from that, you crazy 'Loth, you. |
